you never feel safe in school, and you become burdened by self-interested adults to prove that you're worth their tax dollars. these programs do measurable good, yes. but having lived through them, i know without a doubt that universal programs are the only way forward.

not spoken of often enough, i feel, is the *stigma* that being a kid on a means-tested lunch program brings. i felt it, i was one lol. it was harsh being treated like a poor kid. but even bitter, conservative adults treat you differently, you hear of them talking about you behind closed doors.

I think instead of complaining about critics, councilmembers would do well to consider what's at the heart of the criticism—in this case, the concern that kids truly will continue to go hungry at school, as they do today, simply because they're over the income cutoff or their parents don't apply.

Seen some talk of unethical fiction, so here’s my take

"Block and move on" is great. "Curate your space" is great. You should do both of those things. But a lot of y'all need to learn, understand, and internalize: You WILL see shit that makes you uncomfortable no matter how well you curate your space. You need to not make that everyone else's problem.
