🧵Spotted on Market Day in Aotearoa New Zealand: A man (80s?), the spitting image of Tom Waits in a disheveled tweed coat and homburg is enjoying an espresso at a cafe table. Looking up and breaking into a tender smile on seeing a woman (80s?) approaching. Standing, he pulls out her chair. (1)

Young'un has nicked the star shawl I made for myself, so I'm making one for her and claiming mine back! The perfect "mindless" make and really satisfying to do. Pattern is a tutorial from Fiber Spider on YouTube; yarn is Aldi's Ombre yarn from the latest yarn event 🧶 #crochet
I got Morpheus a cute little tent with a fluffy cushion in it He's hauled out the cushion and discarded it, slept in the tent all afternoon with no padding in itb(see photo below) and now he's leaping in and out of it and hurling it all over the kitchen A success, one supposes...
The very handsome Morpheus has recuperated from a rather intense day yesterday - castration, microchipping and a vaccination all done together He was a bit subdued when he came home in the late afternoon but mayhem recommenced today #CatSky
Before Europeans arrived, these were some of the names for The Great Lakes: Superior: gichi-gami (great sea) Erie: erielhonan (long tail) Michigan: michigami (long body of water) Ontario: Ontarí'io\kanadario (great lake\beautiful water) Huron: karegnondi (fresh water sea)
Pop culture really But Elvis Presley dying because my Mum was really shocked and upset And President Carter (?) getting Israel and Egypt to sign a peace accord, because I'd read my Children's Bible a few times and I knew that was a Big Deal even though I'm not American
What's the first historic event that you remember?
Juliettes smashed it, despite being short at least two band members. Such a lovely bunch of young folk ❤️.
If you're Dartmoor adjacent and fancy some live music tonight, our boy's band The Juliettes are kicking off Carnival week by playing a free gig in the square in Moretonhampstead, supported by the brilliant Americana singer / songwriter Joe Middleton. Music starts at 8pm.
Just put myself round a Cooplands Yorkshire Curd Tart My Granny used to make these from the "beastings" - excess colostrum - after a calf was born This is the closest commercial version I know of Absolute nostalgia in a light pastry crust! 😋

There are hundreds of ideas about stopping this insane dangerous driving for kicks but as someone who has dealt with these sorts of people for years, the only thing that will change it is this: driving without a licence and insurance should carry a ban not points. 12 months ban. Thereafter, driving

Today, Young'un and I built a cat tree for Morpheus (his original one having been usurped by Zeph who still has to be isolated) He "helped" a fair bit But approves of the finished result 😊
My little pal Zeph with his Olympic Dinner Ritual Definitely getting stronger but really in need of his meds to kill off his parasites Unfortunately the treatment is expensive and the practice won't fund the one the vet wanted He's suggested an alternative, I'm going to ring and nag them today

It’s the 366th anniversary today of this ridiculous historical shaggy dog story
Well, if it’s 16 August, it must be the 365th anniversary of William Harrison disappearing from Chipping Campden, which led to the hanging of three people for his murder, one of whom was still hanging in a gibbet when William strolled back into town two years later. Yes, it’s time for

there's been a surge in support for the death penalty again, but people forget that we're not against the death penalty because we think evil people don't deserve to die, we're against it because the government having the power to kill someone they deem guilty can be abused by whoever is in power
Note It's very hard to convince yourself to get out of bed when your first job of the day is cleaning up cat litter trays before it gets too hot Uuurrgggghhh....
Young'un made us pinhole viewers to watch the eclipse yesterday but the best photo I got was of the reflections on the back of Stan the Van through the leaves of our tree. Dozens of tiny reflected eclipses, showing very clearly the crescent remaining
Another early morning train run, this time to collect Stan the Van (the Volkswagen Caravelle I inherited from my Dad) from his MOT. Stan has had troubles with starting lately - starter motor and ignition switch both replaced so hopefully now we're sorted 🤞🏼
