they/them, having fun posting about stuff I enjoy
Half a dozen curate's eggs... a spring chicken... tin of red herring... a bad apple... salt of the earth... humble pie... No, it's not my grocery list - though I wouldn't put it past me! In fact, this is a list of common idioms in English.
I’ve seen at least 17 new species of birds on this visit to Florida so far. At the moment my favorite are the red-shouldered hawks, which are common here but nonexistent where I live
obsessed with this post I saw on the Liga MX subreddit the other day
im not recommending mary renault exactly, but i do go through phases of thinking about her 24/7 #thepersianboy
Fabergé rhinoceros match holder and striker, before 1896. Sandstone, silver, garnets.
Over a year ago, a Dutch frog science magazine emailed me asking if they could include my comic in their upcoming issue about dart frogs. They were interviewing the scientist who first described the blue poison dart frog; he had seen and liked the comic. They mailed me a copy, which just arrived:
僕は果物の妖精です。がんぼるぞい。 translation: I am a fruit fairy.
It won't be very long now, only a few more weeks.
We saw the baby black and white colobus monkey at the zoo today 🥹 here's an official pic of it from the zoo's blog
LRP really good thread! I read Wilson's translation of the Iliad last year as a newcomer to the text and thought it was great, I'm looking forward to reading her translation of the Odyssey next
The success of Emily Wilson's translation had nothing to do with Christopher Nolan. The hardcover edition came out 9 years ago and was a huge success. The paperback has been in steady demand since 2018. My store has sold 75 copies (a lot for 1 book for us) and 66 of those were before January.
“A Penn professor thought she’d sell 1000 copies of her ‘Odyssey’ translation. She sold a million this year alone, thanks to Christopher Nolan.” “West Philly's Emily Wilson, who penned a highly acclaimed translation of the epic poem in 2017, is having a big summer.”
I hate to say it, but heron nestlings are little monsters. They beg so aggressively that the parents always seem relieved to leave after regurgitating a meal. In one case I've even seen fledglings give chase. Snowy egrets, Port Royal Cypress Wetlands, South Carolina #birds #wildlifephotography
the Sounders… are not doing well. On the plus side this bodes well for when Chivas come to play them next month
I want to get into following basketball. Our city is, famously, in between NBA teams right now, but that’s okay because our WNBA team seems awesome
I'm Masuke, and I'm 17. Another fun walk today! Because Masuke is here, no matter what happens, I can swallow my feelings and keep going.
Peacock (the streaming platform) removed the Curious George avatar I was using on there for years. I’m not fucking okay
girl on my bus wearing a Pomni hat. In 90 degree weather, that’s dedication
The "ethical romantasy" thing unfortunately doesn't surprise me, I think because I use a popular book tracking/reviewing site where a lot of users are extremely vocal about disliking any sort of negative themes in their fiction
I'm Masuke, and I'm 17 years old. I went for a walk this morning, full of energy. There was a light breeze, and it felt great. I want to cherish every day I get to go for a walk and eat my meals.
