Observation from Korea: Road bikes sales have been going downhill due to the rising cost. And city bike share is getting more popular.
The speed has always been an issue and it's not getting any faster if not slower.
Adam (he/him) 🇨🇦@adaminhfx.bsky.social · 18h agoThe last few times Halifax was given free money with a deadline (bike lanes, transit, windsor exchange) we blew through the deadline without even starting, got extensions out to around 8 years, still didn't manage to *START* planning before the deadline, and lost the funding.
I can't wrap around my head why Halifax went on with Bayer's Rd closure without installing temporary replacement bus lanes when it's going to take 2 years.
Regular reminder cyclists are allowed to take the full lane.

It's funny to me that people go to Europe on vacation and navigate those cities on foot, transit, bike, or train. Yet, some of those same people will say those modes of transportation can't be done in Halifax. I mean, the downtown core of Halifax was built by settlers from Europe!
Distracted driving is a serious issue and it's surprisingly common. But do we have enforcement officers?

Emily St. James@emilystjams.bsky.social · 3d agoToday was the third day in a row I came within a yard of a car hitting me while I was walking in a crosswalk, and today was way too close. I realize we have some drivers out there, but I think we need to ban cars until we can figure out what's going on.
Suburbs in Quebec are often more bike-friendly than you’d expect. Today we biked to the Montreal suburb of Boucherville (through Longueuil) on almost entirely separated/protected infrastructure. Then the same on a different route back!

Riding on Almon between Windsor and Connaught is scary now, with extra traffic and buses running.
About to drop $3k for my car repair - 4 brake sets, oil change, ball joints. Sigh.
Online reporting. Reporting an incident is one thing and having somebody to check the report is another.

People should be able to report being hit by a driver, near misses, crashes, close passes, drunk/distracted/aggressive driving, all without being victim blamed or made to regret their decision to report. Don’t involve the cops unless it’s necessary.
The problem with traffic in HRM is cars. There are too many cars on the road for our infrastructure The only way to fix it is to remove cars These are then replaced with buses (and bus lanes) and bikes/scooters (with their own lane)

Back in 2013, when I moved to within 3km of my workplace, I decided to ride my bike to/from work. <15-minute commute literally door to door (I'm not fast), get some activity, save money on parking, feel better. Now I'm a safe streets advocate 🤷♀️
I often fear for my life whenever I'm out riding in the city. So I take the bus instead and I don't know how brave you have to be on the city roads.

Return trip. The bus was also delayed and the bus smells like sweaty gym ball. Fml.
