They profit off sad animal stories, prey on your emotions, and cash in every single like, view, share, and follow you have ever given them.In June 2026 Penske Media Corporation bought The Dodo through its PMX subsidiary, who also owns Variety, Rolling Stone, and Billboard. Before that their parent company was Group Nine, which was valued at around $1 billion in 2019. Before any merger, Group Nine was pulling in around $200 million a year across its portfolio of brands. In 2022 Group Nine merged with Vox Media and the combined business was projected to bring in over $700 million in revenue and $100 million in profit in a single year.Across all three parent companies and The Dodo seperately, I could not find a single disclosed giving program, foundation, or CSR report. Not for Group Nine, Vox Media, Penske, and not for The Dodo. If one exists, show me and I will correct this publicly.They did find a way to make even more money from animals and the people who love them though. Petplan was a pet insurance company acquired by private equity firm Warburg Pincus in 2019. In October 2020, Group Nine took a minority equity stake in Petplan and struck a trademark licensing deal, rebranding it as “Fetch by The Dodo” in exchange for royalties and equity in the business. They got paid to put their name on something and that money keeps flowing in with the royalties.The ONLY case of giving I could find from The Dodo itself was in the fall of 2019, when they partnered with Sock Club on an endangered species sock collection. Per Sock Club, a percentage of profits went to organizations helping those species. The percentage, the recipients, and the total were never disclosed. Compare that to how they treat everything else they profit from, every video optimized, re-cut, and re-shared for years to maximize views.
