We talked about games that are starting to disappear from memory: Ben Lehman's Polaris, Stuart Chaplin's many games, Julia Ellingboe's Steal Away Jordan, plus the many that didn't make it out of playtest.

Today's preoccupation is the strangely empty image on the Chameleon Twist (N64) cartridge. So much negative space. You can almost hear a gentle breeze.
Why have I never before perceived the hideous mouths on the Beamos from Ocarina of Time? Did I refuse to perceive them? Did my brain edit them out of my memory?

Yes this last note is so important! Sometimes a well GMd session is helpful for new players but pick-up-and-play oneshots, in my experience, open even very inexperienced players up to the possibility of *making* a game
J. Walton@ludopolitics.bsky.social · 6mo agoI remain convinced that 1-shot, pick-up (often GMless) RPGs remain one of the most accessible entry points into our medium. They do so much -- you can just hand to people, for them to try out on their own, like a board game. And after you play a few of them, you know enough to design your own.
