one of the sadder byproducts of ai obsession: the apparently widespread belief that all output is good output, and that the specifics of what you create don't matter

It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of the International Obfuscated C Code Contest!

Excited to watch winners streaming at 11AM PDT today.

It always brings out an interesting blend of compiler nerds, programming language theorists, and researchers.

FWIW, I still don't believe the root problem lies with the technology. The irresponsible and rapid spread of "vibe coding" as a viable business activity was made by humans. These things only do what we tell them to do. I'm gonna keep reminding people about that.

It's tough seeing every single freelance artist I know having the same "uhh I haven't had paying work or sales in weeks" posts, it's gotten extremely tough out there for us. If you have the means, please consider treating yourself to a commission or print or book from an artist you like, it helps!

I don't think tech at large understands how hard it is to be an open source maintainer right now. So many great folks are on the brink of burnout. Funding is drying out. We live in a security minefield. Companies think humans are disposable. If you're a maintainer, we care. You deserve the world.

Gave up and said "that's awesome" when a coworker did something incorrectly using AI today. Don't care anymore. I saw a really cute finch in my yard today so I'm thinking about that

Every operating system disagrees about what the right arrow key means.

In languages like Hebrew and Arabic, the caret might:

- move right - move left
 - split in two (??)
 - do nothing
Think about it. Should the caret move logically, or visually?

ZionSiphon is an AI-generated, non-functional attempt at ICS malware. Malicious intent doesn't imply ability, and broken malware like this is a distraction when we have proven threats like VOLTZITE/Volt Typhoon out there hitting water utilities.: www.dragos.com/blog/zionsip...

ZionSiphon: Why This Malware Isn't A Credible ICS Threat

Dragos analyzed ZionSiphon and assessed it as non-functional OT malware. Here's why it poses no credible threat to dam desalination or critical infrastructure
