Climate pals, what are your favorite examples of actions that simultaneously reduce climate pollution and help us adapt to climate changes that we can no longer avoid? Joint Adaptation and Mitigation (JAM), if you will.

When the selkie returned to the beach, a man was holding her sealskin. "Is this yours?" he asked. "May I borrow it?" "You want to be a seal?" "No, but when I take it off, I'll be a woman, right?" "My heart, you already are," the selkie said. "That skin is mine, but I can help you find yours."

Question based on this thread: If measuring distance to someplace you are going do you use: A) actual distance measure in Km or miles (e.g. City X is 400 km away) B) time (e.g. City X is 4 hours away) And where are you from? For me: Canadian who uses time 🙋🏼‍♂️

My "Irish Measurement Systems Flowchart" was warmly received by r/Ireland so I'm reposting it here having fixed one error, but without many smaller additions suggested, might do a v2 some time later! #speirgorm

Increasingly seeing "it's too late, we failed" as an argument against climate action. But: a) While we haven't done nearly enough, we've made a lot of progress relative to the "just let fossil fuels rip" world of pre-2000; b) the more&faster we reduce climate pollution, the less bad things will get;

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

Have now seen The Odyssey and read the scathing review by Wilson. The following can all be true: a) A leading scholar on the original material has every right to pen a strong critique. In the 1800s French “wetlands considered unhealthy and unproductive were drained and replaced with pine forest” for timber and resin. Now it’s burning: "This isn't a fire in a natural forest. It’s a fire in a forest that was planted there to support industrial activity." www.cbc.ca/news/world/h...

Kid1 has figured out that getting an actual recipe with silly things like amounts or timings from my mother is a lost cause. So their vacation project is being sous-chef to grandma and writing down something that resembles a recipe. Love seeing it.

Thinking about meaning of “home” as I visit my parents. Moved around a lot growing up. Changed houses, changed schools. So “home” for me now is wherever I’m living but also wherever my parents live. Doesn’t matter that I never lived there. If you moved a lot as a kid, where is “home” for you?

Catching up on podcast listening and it’s been a year since this episode aired. Still as powerful as ever. #Pride

@natedimeo.bsky.social replays this The Memory Palace ep every year on the anniversary of the Pulse Nightclub shooting. Every year it delivers a punch no matter how many times I’ve heard it. A story of loves and lives, of sadness and triumph and of people just wanting to be themselves. #Pride
