Dr in glaciology and expert mapper of coastal topography at a Cooperative Research Institute. An organizer for disability rights in science, which mostly involves yelling at agencies. Science is the easier part of my work. #T1D

I was told I have a deadline of September 28 to change a thing on my student loans since the SAVE act was gutted by SCOTUS. I went to log in today (Sept 27), the whole site is undergoing "routine maintenance" and is completely offline today. Fucking great system we have here, y'all.

Maybe I’m off-base here (you’ll let me know if I am): tho this is clearly a 1000th sign of fascism, the “access journalism” at press briefings never seemed very important to me anyway. Hire more investigative journalists, who dig up leaks and report what the gov’t *isn’t* saying into a microphone.

"[Private] schools often reject children with disabilities ... That leaves those children with few options beyond the public schools. And as public schools lose enrollment as a result of more and more voucher use, they lose resources that would benefit children who remain[.]"

NEW: To give voucher programs a toehold in state legislatures, politicians touted how students with disabilities would gain access to private education. But those students’ families often have the hardest time finding schools that will accept them.

The biggest thing, to me, is that @rude1.blacksky.team is building what I believe is what social media should’ve always been from the start. BlueSky gets credit for getting AT Protocol off the ground, but BlackSky is really delivering the vision, IMO. I believe in what they’re doing.

There’s a kind of fetishizing of disabled people who don’t rock the boat. It’s an offshoot of inspiration porn—the way nondisabled (or laterally ableist) people hold up disabled people who have done great things “in spite of” a disability—or somehow have something to “teach” nondisabled people.

There’s an indignity to owing an outstanding balance to a company with more money than god that makes up extravagent prices from thin air, just because my insurance company bumped my annual deductible to a thousand bucks. It’s a joke. A charade. Gawd I can’t wait to get single-payer healthcare.

Very on-brand the techbros are all ~HEY we made the most innovative school using a patented blend of and AI and Innovation™!~ …but all they created in the end was a child-abusing robot babysitter that vacuums tax dollars.
