I know I'm a broken record, but the number of drivers I see running red lights every day — in the total indifference of the police — is astonishing. As I said before that's the closest I come to the feeling that "Britain is broken". Sadly few of our politicians seem to care about road safety.

That guy may not be a Neonazi anymore, but I've seen one of his AI-generated videos and they are truly awful, hateful and disgusting stuff. Not being a Neonazi anymore doesn't mean he is much better now.

Another example from today: I had to brake sharply to avoid being hit by a van on the way back from work, because the driver couldn't be bothered to check if anyone was coming on the cycle lane before he turned. Commuting by bike in Greater Manchester would radicalise almost anyone against cars.

So many drivers value two seconds of their life more than a cyclist's life. Like the guy who close passed me this morning to turn into the Sainsbury's car park literally two seconds earlier than he would've done otherwise. I guess those two seconds were so precious it was worth driving dangerously.

This is a good point. I cannot go to a demonstration as the risk of being convicted of something is quite high, given illiberal laws in the UK, but if you’re an actual convicted Nazi that’s all cool, as long as you have a British passport. Well done Kemi Badenoch.

I think that any discussion of "why aren't there more moderate centre-right people on Bluesky?" that doesn't include the fact that the centre right (in the UK and other countries) has largely capitulated to the far right, and consequently been hollowed out, is necessarily incomplete.

Political partisans annoy me: someone from Party X makes a good point about some issue with Party Y on which their own party is as bad if not worse, and I'd like to say "Are you aware what party you're in?" without sounding like I'm dismissing the real issue with party Y.

The decision to attempt to justify the abuse, even if it was “clumsy”, or an attempt a “balance” is essentially an editorial decision: to provide/accept justifications for racism as opposed to condemning racism.

This is how racist norms have been systematically eroded, by editorial decisions across mainstream media that racism is should no longer to be condemned, but instead treated as an equally-valid political political position.
