At the Nebulas, @maryannemohanraj.bsky.social, the founder of Strange Horizons, spoke about the origins of the magazine and how it started at a time where there were few opportunities for short story writers, particularly new writers, to have their work published. (1/3)

This carved stone plaque was found in St Francis' Row in Cashel, and it is believed to be the sign for a tavern that was known as The Cat & Bagpipes, that once stood on the main street. It may date to as early as the 16-17th century, and offers a glimpse of Cashel's social life from centuries ago

A stone carving on a plaque, it features a cat playing the bagpipes.

WE'RE SO BAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!!!!!!!!! Alright, so a couple of years ago we left Twitter and migrated to this much better site. And while we do not regret that decision at all... our sales last year took a serious hit. I mean, we lost a good 50% of our readers. The hope was we would slowly build

Sales of our Magazine from 2023 through July of this month. Blue represents Issue 1, yellow Issue 2, green Issue 3, and red Issue 4. Green is much lower, especially in the first month, than all other colors...

Thank you to everyone who reported abuse of this publication that was publishing many many many people's work without their permission after scraping Daily Science Fiction's archives. The site appears to be taken down now, and may it stay that way forever.

Hey! If you were published at Daily Science Fiction, be aware that a site called Science Fiction Weekly has stolen the entire story database & posted it on their site. All of my DSF stories are there without my permission. sciencefictionweekly.com

Space Unicorns!! The Uncanny Magazine KICKSTARTER is currently sitting at almost 77% funded!!! A HUGE THANK YOU if you have already backed it!! BUT...if you want a ONE MONTH short story submission period instead of just two weeks...THEN WE ONLY HAVE TWO DAYS TO FULLY FUND!! buff.ly/YXbF3WP

Photo of Michael Damian Thomas with a drawn speech bubble and typed text saying, “Writers, Please Share! If the Uncanny Magazine Year 13 Kickstarter fully funds by Aug. 1, we will be open 1 MONTH to short story submissions! If the Kickstarter funds after Aug. 1, we will only be open for 2 WEEKS to short story submissions! If we don’t fully fund, well…”Above is a small typed caption, “and now for a word from uncanny magazine’s publisher and editor in chief Michael Damian Thomas…”

Update on your submissions because many are inquiring and yes they are still under consideration while I get myself together. Piggybacking on Taco Bell's apologies. Mexican pizza is $1 on July 28th in the app

Update on tbq8, replies coming

THIS! Our family couldn’t afford much in the way of books… but the library could. I *lived* in that place, and read everything I could lay my hands on. If I’m worth anything as a writer, it’s because of the library. I’ll be delighted if you get or read my books there!! 😃

Someone said to me, "I'm sorry but I got your book from a library." Nobody should ever apologise for that. You read my book! That's brilliant! I grew up hanging out in libraries and the idea of a world without them fills me with dread. Without libraries, authors, like readers, will only suffer.

Hi, we are working on making some site upgrades to all the sites, hopefully disruption will be minimal, but if you have some difficulty try again in a while. If you still see anything tomorrow let us know

Started work on a new painting for the Two Trees of Valinor. I cannot share anything visually yet, but since landscape is the theme, here is a recent visit to the Wizard's Vale and Orthanc the home of Saruman. Inspiration for this painting.. Orthanc 36" x 36" Oil on Panel 2024 private collection
