Wow. Proponents of the ICE taser gloves are openly saying that one reason they love the gloves is that they doesn’t leave any marks or proof that they were used, making it harder for people to sue when they’re shocked excessively.

Mother Jones

"In today's society, you know, everybody's filming everything, everybody has a cell phone," Glueck said. If an officer punches someone on camera, that can go viral in an instant; even a standard taser leaves puncture wounds. But "the glove is low optic, and it looks better on camera, and it looks better to those witnesses. With a glove, there are no burn marks or scars."But local police across the country are still eagerly buying the gloves—in large part so that they can harm people and avoid being sued for it. It's been successful "from the patrolmen to the jailers," Lumpkin County Sheriff Stacy Jarrard said in a Compliant Technologies promotional video. "It's been a great tool as far as mitigating liability," according to Nelson County Jailer Justin Hall.
Bob Couey of the Floyd County Sheriff's Department sung the GLOVE's praises, too: "I highly recommend these gloves to anybody that's looking for a utility they can use that is conducive to not leading to lawsuits."

This story’s got everything: Spiderman-villain weaponry, Black Hawk Down, vaccine conspiracy theories, weird YouTube videos www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has announced that Mexico is taking legal action against the United States in regards to the cold blooded murder of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo by an ICE killer in Texas. They’ll pursue justice for the mistreatment of Mexican nationals. Good. 💙👊

It has been criminally underreported but Kelsey Pfendler has just rowed solo across the Pacific Ocean from the US coast to Hawaii in record time. A 2,400-mile unsupported journey in 43 days, 17 hours, and 55 minutes. Notably beating the Men’s record by 9 whole days.

Trying to pick apart a woman's text messages to prove she's lying about being raped is gutter behavior. Consent can be revoked at any time and reading insinuations into text messages that the sender denies were there is ACTUAL journalistic malpractice. I would not trust a man who does this!

10. There’s another thing Platner knew before his Senate campaign began: he has a long paper trail. Somewhere in the Marine Corps archives is a thick file with his name on it containing photos, signatures and other documents that establish every interaction he had with the Marines about his tattoos.

I think the Platner thing hit me so hard bc it was one of the most protracted, widespread acts of misogynist gaslighting from my own side that I've seen. We were presented with an obvious violent scumbag who was constantly lying (badly, might I add) and told we were crazy for not loving him

🧵 Amid all the speculation about Nigel Farage's 2pm statement, it's worth noting paragraph 40 of the Procedural Protocol to the MPs' Code of Conduct. If he announces he's resigning and seeking a by-election, that would not automatically end the investigation into whether he breached the Code in...

challenging to phrase this exactly right because it'd be in bad taste to use this as a gotcha against all his supporters, but the journalists who very explicitly framed Platner as a rejection of stuff like "HR Lady Politics" or (ugh) "smoothgroins" should take a long, hard, look in the mirror today

Also American Diplomats trying to get the Indian Military to coup the democratically elected government every 10 minutes to the point where Manekshaw lost his shit at the US Ambassador when asked about it (jokingly per Keating) at a party "As soon as General Westmoreland takes over your country!"

Some journalists seem to accept Trump's claim that his Venezuela operation was a "big success." Facts: He kidnapped Venezuela's leader and left the No. 2 in power, with no path to elections. He killed about 100 people. He shut Congress out of the decision-making. He's stealing Venezuela's oil.

UK Bluesky is normally really easy to follow, except the one week a month it descends into incomprehensible screaming because someone from North Flobershire dared refer to themselves as a Galbrilander despite their nan having actually been born south of Brookingsmarch-on-the-Tarrowack.

I'll summarize this: Mamdani asked NYers to keep air conditioning at 78 degrees. A wave criticism hit online. A MSNBC broadcast pointed out the US Department of Energy recommends that 78 degree figure. Immediately after, the US Department of Energy deleted 6,000 web pages related to energy saving.

Here's a thing. The Oval was packed tonight for the women's T20 World Cup semifinal. Pretty much nobody is covering it - the football world cup, the Stokes debacle, Wimbledon, they're all taking up the space. But still. The ground was totally full. That tells you everything about the state of it.
