"Structure and metabolism should no longer sit in separate boxes. The brain’s wiring could also be part of its fuel strategy. Myelin may be more than insulation; it may also form part of the brain’s adaptive metabolic infrastructure." 🧠👇 #neuroskyence www.thetransmitter.org/metabolism/b...
Beyond glucose: The brain may feed itself
Myelin may serve as an energy reserve for the brain, and neuroscientists are rethinking how the brain stores, shares and protects energy.

Consultants should be hounded, heckled, and marched straight off campus. They are the enemy of education: an extractive beast who seeks to loot Universities of all their worth and leave behind a wreckage.
Bowen was very enthusiastic, relatively knowledgeable about AI systems and agents, and charming. He had several pedagogical, personal, and professional ideas that he presented to us, including: 1. Do away with a physics midterm, ask students to converse with AI Isaac Newton.
Can I interest you in a moist owlette as a timeline cleanse? This is Sassafras the Eastern Screech Owl from the Cincinnati Zoo (@cincinnatizoo.bsky.social, but via their FB) and I love him very much. Eastern Screech Owls (Megascops asio) are native to eastern North America.
Stalin fundamentally crippled Soviet #science in the 1930s and almost a century later it still hasn't recovered. That's what Trump, RFK Jr., Vought, and MAGA are doing right now to the United States.
I was invited to give a campus-wide keynote at a flagship university for Sexual Assault Awareness Month. I was offered a speaker’s fee of $150 and parking validation. These schools really let us know their values based on where they spend their money.
Also of note, Iowa paid Chris Rufo—perhaps the leading propagandist for the current assault on higher ed, an unqualified hack and admitted fabulist—$34,000 to speak. It's embarrassing that any higher ed institution would invite him, especially when they are cutting departmental budgets.

Amazing work by Dr. Yin Wang, Jamie Reilly, Haroon Popal, and others. The scale of this work is breathtaking.
It’s out! Our article in Nature Human Behavior led by Yin Wang on the conceptual structure of human relationships across cultures and time. This work is breathtaking nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com?url=https%3A...

The Senate HELP Committee has jurisdiction over NIH. GOP members of the committee represent AK, AL, IN, FL, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, OH, and SC. Research universities and hospitals in those states need to be extra loud.
Goes without saying for scientists: This means Musk and his kids have access to grant applications, study section reports, internal scoring, RPPRs. The core of the best ideas in US science. Will they steal those ideas? #scicomm #neuroskyence #evodevo #publichealth 🧪🧑🔬
NEW from inside NIH: I am hearing that a “young” DOGE staffer now has access to eRA, the software system used to track/administer all NIH grants.

I think pretty much everyone who might be concerned in UK science (plus interested newspaper readers like me, who have been following the story which goes back months) will understand what this is about. But for info: www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

Hippocampal neurons code individual episodic memories in humans. The neurons don't code for a particular element in the episode (e.g., concept or time). They code for the conjunction of the different elements. #neuroscience #psychology #PsychSciSky #NeuroSkyence www.nature.com/articles/s41...
