@deadslug.bsky.social It’s not like it only goes one way. A human opens a vegetable stand at the corner of Mausoleum Town selling garlic and leeks, and the residents are terrified. Salt the roads when it snows and half the spirits can’t cross the street.
Richard Roberts
@inscrutablemachine.bsky.social
Writer of the Please Don't Tell My Parents I'm A Supervillain series and a bunch of books that are awesome but don't sell as well. https://www.amazon.com/stores/Richard-Roberts/author/B005XOLGVU I tell a lot of funny stories. (He/Him)
@deadslug.bsky.social Your world inspires me, as you can see. Human/spirit politics must be so difficult. "He only eats humans who were destined to die at that moment," sounds completely reasonable to old fashioned spirits who would never hurt humans themselves. Not so reasonable to humans.
My stuffed shells are to die for. As in, your arteries will turn solid with cholesterol.
Everything must burn. Everything is crab. Therefor the future is full of flaming crabs.
I had to photograph one when I first saw them because it’s so insane.
There's a whole industry of Manly Coffees now that are just shitty Folgers knockoffs with names like Battle Warrior Brew and Sexpest Instant Blend
And a whole bunch of questions with no answers (deliberately, according to the author 😄). It is both somewhat disturbing and very hopeful, and I think I recommend it quite a bit.
Maybe not as much for the rest of the book, but I would never have pegged this book as being by the same author as Don't Tell My Parents I'm a Supervillain. *NEVER*. There aren't any *endings* in the book -- the acts end, but they're not in any way final.
I have just finished reading Wild Children by @inscrutablemachine.bsky.social, and while I'm not sure how I feel about it yet, I can tell it's going to be churning in my head for a while. I mentioned this yesterday but: Act I, I kept thinking was written by M. R. Carey.
There is a whole Nidoqueen fandom isn’t there?
They also lack easy heroes. A Greek hero is impressive, not a good person. Odysseus stabs his lieutenant for saying Odysseus going alone to check out Kirke’s mansion is a bad idea. Important context, I feel.
some might say that ancient Greek literature’s lack of easy villains is a form of intellectual maturation, but I gotta shut up, we’re talking pop culture here
Jareth is one of my idols because he is absolutely telling the truth in his final speech. In the finest fae tradition he is giving her what she asked for, needs, and expects.
Lots of arguments for Magneto, Ozymandias and Killmonger, but my money’s always on Darth Revan. I will also argue that Jareth the Goblin King was neither right nor wrong but behaving exactly the way that an ancient fey acts when some dipshit teenager invokes him to steal her brother.
In Pokopia Ditto is a friendly little derp who remixes everyone’s words right back at them. As a result everyone loves Ditto. So, uh… topical.
This is your reminder that the word Lovecraft used to describe ghoul speech was 'meep'.
Beaker Muppet with Chainsaw
Alt: Beaker from the Muppets running around with a chainsaw. Presumably he is screaming 'meep meep'.

I still live in awe of this. I frequently debate if I should switch the cover to this.
This cottage pie took 4 frikkin' hours to make, 2 of those hours actively working with my hands, and it tastes that good.
When you all are in the drive through and they tell you “Have a blessed day.” do they make the sign of the cross and slam the window shut?
More people are telling me to “Have a day.” Are vultures circling my head? Do nails I can’t see stick into me like a voodoo doll? Is there just a big sign behind me that reads CURSED?
"No one can change who they are in this world" says the beginning of Deltarune, beginning a story about someone creating lots of new worlds.
_Wild Children_ is a tale of body horror, slavery, and redemption in a very stratified society. (And it qualifies as furry.) It's also Richard Roberts' best work. Four stories intertwined. Five children.
LIES AND SLANDER. If you don't want the super silliness, try Wild Children, a book as silly as it is physically possible to not be. Dark literary fantasy about cursed children? That's my masterpiece. www.amazon.com/dp/1637897243

I have in fact read this book! And most of the sequels. I liked the first book a lot; I got an actual sense of risk for the characters, which isn't something I usually get with books aimed at the pre-YA youngers. It is *super silly*. Like, it makes Dr Who look completely serious non-speculative fic.
I've read all the sequels (except any that might still be getting written, I'm not one of the beta readers), and thumbs up for the series.

Pokopia update. Gallade hated his room. Lowest level. He asked for it to be brighter. It had two lights already! So I put in a really bright light and he said it was better but he wanted more. I ended up putting in five lights and it dragged him from ‘worst’ to ‘best’. That dude loves Lamp.
Frying burgers in their own grease wins again. I'm sure these are as unhealthy as they taste, but they taste SO RICH.
Watching Mew and MewTwo talk in Pokopia is like if Darth Vader REALLY LIKED Kermit the Frog. “You should go outside and have fun!” “I ADMIRE YOUR OPTIMISM.”
