I also think it's so important how rich a history scientific illustration has of being an intrinsic part of science communication! AI illustrations lack the accuracy of an attentive human illustrator, which is really crucial when you get down to the species level.
I didnt mention BioRender and BioArt in this and really should have!! Some people also are commenting Canva is full of AI and I’ve only noticed that in the editing tools. I havent seen AI created graphics. I also think AI editing tools is a separate conversation from actually making graphics.
It’s literally so easy nowadays to make a graphic. Canva is free, accessible, and easy. There’s quite literally no reason to need to use AI art
