In 1986, just getting prescribed hormones as a transgender person was a years long ordeal. Even in the most liberal mainstream workplaces, being gay and/or trans had to be a secret.

No, this post is not a glorification of violence. Prison gangs have a different code of acceptable behaviour than the rest of US society. It's an insult to the gang to have a child molester walking among them. According to many gang's rules, child molesters can't be allowed to "walk the yard."

growing up in a title 1 rural district, I knew a lot of kids whose families weren't capable, present enough, or willing to face the shame of that paperwork. and that's to speak nothing of the unhoused (or functionally unhoused) kids who didn't HAVE families but weren't allowed to do it themselves
