If you think Labour’s viciously transphobic schools “guidance” will not affect your child, because they are not trans, you are wrong. The Rights Respecting School is dead. This will affect all children in every school in the UK. If one child’s human rights are violated, it is a RRS for no-one.
Natacha@natacha.bsky.social · 4w agoWhen Section 28 ended, as a teacher I made my school a Rights Respecting School; it based its ethos & teaching on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The government’s anti-trans “guidance” means that, from 1st Sept being a Rights Respecting School will be impossible.

This seems to be a problem with a lot of the planning applications around new datacentres in Scotland. The blurb talks about harnessing local renewables but the details show that the significant investment needed to do that just isn't there. It's greenwashing, and it needs called out.

One of the best ways to protect a city from heat is a *lot* more trees. It should be considered a necessary action for every city to be increasing tree coverage to protect their residents from extreme heat.
Hyperscale data centres are unwelcome developments, with huge energy use and environmental impact, all to enrich some of the world's worst people. Join our campaign to get the Scottish Government to call a halt and put clear planning rules in place to prevent this harm.

Joining the chorus of disapproval for the under-16s social media ban. There *is* unhealthy usage and ill-effects in this age group, but this is the equivalent of dealing with school shootings by banning children from schools. Fix the platforms. They are poisoning *everyone*'s minds in the same way.

Labour have just had a catastrophic election result where they’re haemorrhaging votes to us. Of course Starmerism with a northern accent doesn’t understand this. He didn’t when he supported the Iraq war. He didn’t when he started the privatisation of the English NHS. And he doesn’t now.Shame!
