One argument for heeding the warnings of AI bros is that there seems to be a theme across the past decade of evil people telling everybody how they are going to be evil and nobody believing them. And then those people are evil in the exact way they described.

My third opinion is that the terms “thinking” and “understanding” were created specifically to describe human processes and are not applicable to LLMs. It’s like asking if AI has an age.

Turns out if you want to maximize paperclips you need a liberal democracy to do it :p “Why are you funding public schools?” “The metallurgists have to come from somewhere.” “And universal healthcare?” “Jim, I need them alive. Do you want the fucking paperclips or not?”

A serious weakness in the “sufficiently intelligent AI inevitably wages war on humanity” story is that it needs to explain why conquest beats purchasing, contracting, and participating.

"Pope gifted green orb" "Trump threatens EU over Canada" "Chipotle partners with Palantir" What the fuck is going on anymore they're just making this shit up now

i feel like its been a whole 24 hours since ive been surprised by a new big AI model whats going on here

it's amazing to watch. professional american political operatives are totally powerless in the face of Some Guy being the bigger man. acting like an adult is like sending a laser blast down the death star's exhaust port

It's rare to find a two minute clip that thoroughly maintains its insanity throughout, but this is it. It is insane to claim that you just want to have fun with computers when you are getting more funding than nearly ANY OTHER FOSS PROJECT exclusively from neo-nazis. Ludicrous.

re: omarchy trying to create parallel infra to subvert the linux community and kick trans/female/black people out i know some people think that sounds crazy but DHH literally is doing a podcast tour saying that is exactly what he's doing lol

I think I've made a conclusive theory of niche internet discourse: Side 1 makes hyperbole. Side 1 followers recognize hyperbole. Side 2 doesn't recognize hyperbole, makes response with hyperbole. Side 2 followers recognize new hyperbole. Side 1 doesn't recognize new hyperbole. Go to beginning.
