#WIPSnips July 30 - relax Not every flower fairy is very nice. Chicory meets the fairies at the manor where Silas used to work and things don't go very well. 😢 (From Flower Fairy WIP)

Rose stepped forward, pinching the sleeve of his handmade shirt and examining it. Chicory tried not to flinch, he really did, but he couldn’t help it. That show of weakness was a mistake. Rose grinned and tugged on the sleeve. It held, thankfully, but Chicory’s heart raced. His wings fluttered behind him.
“Did you make this yourself?” Rose asked, tilting her head. “How rustic.”
“Well, there weren’t any humans around to make my clothes,” Chicory said, his wings fluttering again. “My mother taught me how to make them.”
“Oh, poor thing,” Foxglove said, closing in and picking at the other sleeve. “Stuck wearing leaves and petals. We could probably find you something proper to wear. We’d just need to get you out of this first.”
As he spoke, Foxglove pulled hard on the sleeve, ripping the leaves apart. He laughed, reaching to tear the rest of Chicory shirt off, but Chicory pushed him back. The shove was harder than Chicory intended and Foxglove stumbled back, his eyebrows raised. Chicory just stepped back, away from them, and tried to hold his sleeve together.
“Relax,” Rose said, smiling with all her teeth. “We’re just playing, Chicory. Have you never been around other fairies before?”
Chicory swallowed. “Just my mother.”
“Oh,” Gardenia said, tilting her head. “That explains why you’re so strange.”

#WIPSnips yes that's a reference to Infinity War, yes there are several MCU references scattered through the series, no I don't particularly consider myself an mcu fan in 2026. Leecie has many and varied scifi interests, however.

“So you don’t remember the hotel?” Bolton asked.

“What hotel?”

His posture relaxed. “You were in a lot of pain.”

“Everly said the injection might kill me,” I said.

“I think she was almost right.” Bolton rested his head over mine, like he couldn’t go another second without reassurance that I wouldn’t dissolve into dust before his eyes.

As he explained the rest of what I had missed, I found myself supporting more and more of my body against his. The ever-present hum of pain had largely disappeared, but in its place was an exhaustion so deep it touched the depths of my soul. Sitting upright was not a task I’d ever had to think about, and now it was more than I could manage.

#WIPSnips July 27 - defuse No actual use of "defuse" here, but Chicory is defusing a potential volatile situation! [From Flower Fairy WIP]

Bluebell landed first, but Silas was close behind. He stumbled to a stop, his eyes finding Chicory in an instant. His eyes were as red and puffy as the children’s, as if he had been crying as well. He was breathing hard, chest heaving, and he knelt in the dirt to bring his face even to Chicory.
“Gods, Chicory, you’re okay,” Silas said, his voice breaking. “I was so worried. So worried. I thought I lost you. I couldn’t find you when I got home and I looked and looked. I started thinking of all the bad things that could have happened. I thought that a fox had gotten you or… or…”
Chicory stepped close, pressing his body against Silas’s tear-stained cheek and squeezing. Silas stilled for a moment, then gently placed his hand over Chicory’s back. He pushed them closer together.
“I’m all right, Silas,” Chicory said. “It was just a mix-up.”
Silas sniffed. “I’m sorry. I was scared. I don’t want to lose you, Chicory.”
“I was scared too,” Chicory said against Silas skin. “I thought I’d never see you again.”
Silas carefully pulled back, a watery smile on his face. “And that wasn’t a good thing?”
Chicory rolled his eyes, but he managed a smile for Silas. “That was the worst thing imaginable.”
Silas chuckled, his amber eyes fixed on Chicory. “Thank the gods you’re okay. Thank the gods.”

“The kid doesn’t even have the words to lie,” Miri sighed. “But that’s not even the point. She might not have lied, but whoever wrote this could have, and there’s not enough detail in their ad to determine whether or not—”

Honeysuckle leapt to her feet on top of the barrel. She balled all four of her fists and brandished them at Miri. “No lie! Elders don’t lie!”

Miri instantly held up her hands. “Hey, easy!”

“We have no doubt you aren’t lying,” Leiha said, calmly and softly, as she leaned down to place a hand on the barrel. “It’s just . . . we don’t know what dangers you’re asking us to take on. It would be too risky of a job for us to take. I’m sorry.”

Honeysuckle deflated. “Help?” she squeaked. “Please. Can pay.”
