#MythAugust I'd implied this yesterday, but of all the gods, the First Queen doesn't actually rank all that high, no. Even outside of the Dawnlit, most regard her as a small, minor, near-powerless insect of a god, much like people actually regard mortal insects. (1/4)

🫜Prof Emily🫜@professoremily.bsky.social · 18h ago

#MythAugust 5 Today is about hierarchy! Who ranks highest or lowest among your gods/spirits/whatever? Is there a consensus about this ranking? As usual, interpret the question as loosely as you need to to fit your specific worldbuilding, and feel free to skip if it's not relevant to you! 😊❤️

#MythAugust prompt for Aug 5:
Let's talk hierarchy! Which of your deities are more powerful/respected? Are there minor deities who serve the big ones?

#MythAugust One fun thing I never covered last year was the other gods' relationship to the First Queen! So in Lumina, for the most part, all gods exist; it's just that mortals aren't aware of this, as different gods' religions will "conveniently" forget to mention this. (1/6)

🫜Prof Emily🫜@professoremily.bsky.social · 2d ago

#MythAugust 4 Today, tell me about the different factions among your gods/spirits. Think like the Æsir & Vanir in Norse mythology, or angels & demons in Christianity. What's their relationship? Are they sworn enemies? Sometimes allies? Interpret the question however makes sense for your story!

#MythAugust prompt for Aug 4:
Are there different factions among your deities? If so, what is their relationship to each other?

#queerwriters REST. By which I mean dive back into reading, game, and overall chill after a month of writing. Will get back to either Beeslingers revisions or TNS next week. Also? Send out more applications. It's tossing into the void without networking, I know, but still.

#MythAugust Moral-ish. The zizzun firmly believe that the First Queen is good; it's their belief that she taught her children how to live, which was then passed down from generation to generation of zizzun through their queens. And those are pretty solid, community-minded morals there. BUT! (1/2)

🫜Prof Emily🫜@professoremily.bsky.social · 3d ago

#MythAugust 3 What kind of moral code do your fantasy gods or spirits follow, if any? Do they share similar moral values to the people, or is their sense of morality completely alien? Do they even do "morality" at all? As usual, interpret as you wish and don't forget to interact with others! ☺️

#MythAugust prompt for Aug 3:
How does your deities' sense of morality align with that of people? I.e. are they moral, immoral, amoral, a mix...?

#MythAugust As I'd mentioned yesterday, the zizzun only believe in one god: the First Queen, a giant queen bee said to have been born from a divine egg at the beginning of time. Note: She is, literally, a house-sized queen bee with god powers, not an anthropomorphized bee like the zizzun. (1/2)

#MythAugust Day 2 Tell us about the major god(s) or spirit(s) in your fantasy religion! This is meant to be a broad overview - we'll have focused questions for specific gods later! Feel free to interpret the question as loosely as you need to if you aren't working with a traditional pantheon 😁

#FaveLineFriday From #ADragonForDarius Vol. 3. Drake has been through the ringer lately, and now he has fallen angels, A.K.A. Priests, bowing to him. Bonus Question: A layered, citrus cocktail. Something as simple as a tequila sunrise, perhaps. #WritingPrompts #WritingCommunity

“What are you worth, Priest?” Drake growled.

The question startled the prone Priest and he looked up, wide-eyed. “Um. I watched over you when you were unconscious. I have subjected myself to your power already.” He looked down again. “You told us to come here. We are fallen and have nowhere else to go.”

The first line is highlighted: "What are you worth, Priest?" Drake growled.

#FaveLineFriday #⚔️🌿🌼 I just got to this bit in editing my favorite chapter in Sterling's POV. 🏳️‍⚧️ He was forced to suffer in silence after being traumatized by his past pregnancies because the cult he's assimilated himself to would shun him. cw dysphoria, transphobia

But Sterling could not think about that time in his life. As far as these women were concerned, he never had the ability nor thought to carry a child within a womb. He had to pretend, to lie that an imaginary wife toiled for many weeks, twice over, and suffered during labours that left her unable to use the lower half of her body for days. He had to pretend that this imaginary wife no longer could feel her nipples or knew what it was to suffer from a foul melancholy that had her disinterested beyond the primal instinct to care for an innocent babe.

He had to lie, to pretend that these experiences were not his own. For if he uttered them aloud, then all that he had done as a man would mean nothing among God’s Chosen.

Happy #FaveLineFriday! The Wolf Knight is coming along nicely. I'm proudest of this exchange between Sir Garrett and Ata, where he asks her to consider becoming Queen instead of a knight. He might be my favourite side character. Bonus Q: Hot Chocolate. #Raven+Bear #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WIP

An excerpt from The Wolf Knight (Raven & Bear: 8) by Bramble, in black text on a white background. Sir Garrett asks Ata to consider becoming Queen instead of a knight.

Transcript:
“I had a fight with Sir Corbyn,” she admitted, gaze turned toward that warm hearth, “he said something unkind but I was cruel. I told him he’s not my dad and I don’t need him to be.”

“That might have been too harsh,” Sir Garrett ran a hand through his beard as he spoke, “you wrote to me saying he’d been overprotective, but I can’t argue with him on that.”

“I’m just not sure how to move forward,” Ata leant back into the seat with a forlorn sigh, eyes closed against this soft light. After a long and pensive pause, they opened, “what should I do?”

“There’s a chance you go back,” her knight leant forward, then carried on in a dire tone, “and he relaxes when you’re fine. However, you could also stay in Dinas Glyndŵr as our princess.”

“I want to be a knight.” She stared, mouth agape from shock.
Sir Garrett gripped his alder staff tightly, “do you, or is it that you never had a choice? I’m just asking you to consider it.”

“Why?” Ata laughed, unable to fathom that request.

He turned in a bashful manner, “your mother is a great leader, but you would be legendary. A name alongside Pryderi or Bran.”

“Of course you think that,” the princess snickered as a blush crept up from under this man’s beard, “after all, I’m only a princess because of you… but yes, I’ll consider it. Thank you.”

#FaveLineFriday I started working on a new short story for #ChroniclesOfTheRealms. This one is set during the Nightmare Eclipse, a day when the sun rises shrouded in shadows, a consequence of the time when Archdevil Azamul ate the God of the Sun, and it's from #KitanaSuêòng POV. #WriteSky

Every year, on the twenty-fourth day of the Hawthorn Cycle, the sun engulfed the realm in a nightmare. Every year, Kitana was kept locked inside the Palace of the Golden Seed, watching as disciples of the Twin Dragons and the Order of Light, as well as an assortment of Breathbinders, slayers, mystics, and all sorts of adrenaline- and glory-seeking wanderers, battled the demonic hordes that invaded Edenia.

Not this time.

She finished lacing her sandals—though she didn’t plan on going beyond Dueóng, she didn’t want to wade through demonic gore with her bare feet, either—and checked her fans once again. The leaf, fashioned from the purest silk of the daó'réa, reflected the light of the bonfires scattered throughout the city, and the feather-shaped sticks and guards glinted like the fangs of a covetous beast. Soon.

#FaveLineFriday Tied - a line from each short I worked on this week. Bonus Q: Aloe - chicory coffee. Not everyone's fave, complex, earthy. S3 - doubleshot espresso. Bitter, thrilling. GITM short - seltzer water. Clear, not what it appears. Sanguivore short - absinthe. Trippy. Can be sweet. Strong.

A snippet from Sanguivore by Artemis Quinn. It says:

Looming over me was a mountain of moss and small round stones, bleached bones and bent pieces of camping gear sticking out of it like broken stakes. I was suddenly hyper aware of just how thin and fragile my shield of mesh and canvas was. Bright orange and white mushrooms dotted across its moss-covered back. "Please help me," it said, and the voice sounded even further off than before. What the fuck?! What is that?!

snap snap SNAP

The sounds echoed through the air as the pass... broke apart?

No.

That was its mouth. It was chewing.A snippet of Sanguivore by Artemis Quinn. It says:

"I was sitting on a beach, minding my own business when I was taken. All of us are missing chunks, with now explanations, left in isolation with a dirty band marking us and keeping us weak. Am I a monster?"

"Y-yes," the man whined stubbornly.

"I worked with your wife, sir. Does she know you kidnapped me?"

"Please, I'm a scientist, not a fighter, I —"

I didn't care to listen to his excuses. "Where's my eye?" I asked.

He kept begging, and my patience snapped. "Where is my eye?!"

#FaveLineFriday Ok, just stumbled in a couple of real zingers in one of my half-completed improv shorts Ive been sifting through and here is a re-occurring character deciding she’s going to casually investigate the paranormal between beers. (This is a sub-way-related manhole.)

She placed her beer down on the pavement and hauled up the grate. She was a professional. This was fine. She knelt on the edge, lowering her face into the opening, but she could see nothing, even with the light from her phone. Ok then.
She picked up her pint and sat on the edge, legs dangling down into the gap. She looked at the beer, then down into the hole, then at the beer again before putting it to her lips and chugging the remainder of the liquid. When she set it neatly on the pavement beside the hole, the foam slid deliriously back down the side to rest at the bottom as if it has just had the most satisfying experience of its life.
Charlie balanced on a couple of crossbeams as she lowered herself carefully into the hole. She worried vaguely about traumatic dismemberment, but what were the odds of that happening to her twice? Then, with a thrill, she felt the wind and heard the distant rumble. She aimed her light into the beams and supports, waiting, her heart in her throat and a smile on her cheeks.

#FaveLineFriday My actual fave line is a *little* too close to the end of the story to share, but I love a good, "I'd know you anywhere." 🥰 (From Flower Fairy WIP) BonusQ: Flower Fairy WIP would be a cold glass of lavender lemonade!

Chicory took a breath, trying to encourage himself to be brave. He flew up behind Silas and asked softly, “Can I ride on your shoulder?”
Silas whipped his head to face him, smile as bright as the sun. “Of course. You’re always welcome to. Don’t even have to ask.”
Chicory smiled, tapping his fingers together. “Well, I don’t want to sit on your shoulder suddenly and have you brush me off because you think I’m a wasp or something.”
“You are heavier than a wasp, believe it or not,” Silas said. “I’d know the difference. I’d know you anywhere.”
