If other countries are pissed about Balogun's red card being lifted, they can stayed pissed. Wanting to punish a 25-year-old who did nothing wrong and has carried himself well just because you're angry at Trump and FIFA is weak sauce.

Of course Gianni is going for the "Our totally independent disciplinary body totally independently decided the first time a World Cup red card suspension would ever be reversed would be the one the President of the host nation I've been sucking up to for the past year personally asked for" defence.

While many of you are likely yelling "GO USMNT" or "GO BELGIUM!" I'm yelling "GO JOHN COATES, PRESIDENT OF CAS, and the rule of law!"

FIFA's own rules dictate that if a government tries to intervene in a disciplinary matter - that team is disqualified. Not happening to the USA though, despite trump making that phone call. Wonder why. 🤔 Fuck Trump. Fuck Infantino.

For whom it may concern - please stop saying "Balogun shouldn't have been sent off, so suspending his ban is ok." Sport only works when rules are fair and equally applied. Argue for a fairer appeal process, argue for VAR to be less shit. Don't argue FIFA should be able to pick and choose. Please.

Even if you don't think it was a red, FIFA suspending Balogun's ban is deeply worrying for the state of the game. In article 27, FIFA have a clause where they get to pick and choose how discipline is applied based on reputation, politics or profit - and they are quite prepared to use it for such.

What a goal. My mind is not prepared for the possibility this might be Messi's last every World Cup match.
