In case you're wondering what my work vibe is like, I had to rush send some rack-mount servers on a truck to another location, and, hurrying to get them and their big plastic travel rack enclosure off of my desk and out the door, knocked the glass of water I had been drinking onto the floor.

Ok, so the "thumbs up is 'man' in Japanese" thing is, to my understanding, even funnier in context, because it's a little sexual? Holding out your pinky is the "woman" equivalent, and my teacher actually (lightly) scolded me for using it. (lol)

The same gesture can mean different things, or have different names in different languages. In this Lingthusiasm zine, @superlinguo.bsky.social gets enthusiastic about these "emblem gestures" For more lingthusiastic zines: lingthusiasm.com/zines

It's fascinating to me how many varied experiences everyone had in 90s/00s American anime fandom. I can only talk about my own experiences, but I believe everyone else, too! Personally, I was bullied for other reasons, but anime/manga/JRPGs were my comfort in those otherwise difficult times.

If I was doing a media mix property tied in with what I assume is a chapter-based game, I'd probably involve time travel. So that the "aliens" are future humans. Also so the protagonists of both can meet (and maybe kiss).

I logged on because of the siren song of New Gundam, but my actual take on the announcements is that somebody has got to document the crap out of this game they're tying into, lest the plot details get lost whenever the servers go offline.

My friends are going through a rough time, and it's really triggering me not wanting to be very social online, so if I'm kind of reclusive for a while, that's what's up. I can't really explain my own emotions, but I just can't do anything substantive for them and it makes me not want to have fun.

Having a surprisingly hard time finding any articles (academic or otherwise) on digital archives of Okinawan music. Anyone have any suggestions? (Articles in English or Japanese, from academic journals, popular magazines, or elsewhere)

Me: I was really surprised when I saw the kanji spelling of "suteki (wonderful)." Sensei: Why? M: It's the "teki." S: What "teki" do you think it is? M: Like, "the teki (enemy) I must defeat." S: Ah, that's wrong. Let me type it… Computer: 素敵 S: WHAT IS THIS? WHY DOES IT WRITE A SCARY WORD?
