Remember multiple large cities including both Chicago & NY found that ShotSpotter sent them so many false positives it made it harder for them to do their jobs, not easier. It was so bad the company changed its name to SoundThinking hoping to get away from the tarnished name.

A point worth elevating about The Post’s pivot to video shorts is that video is necessarily far less information dense than text. They are *opting* to provide worse, less rigorous arguments, even assuming they had valuable arguments to make. (Oh, is that what police say?)

Last year, the Reader Union helped the paper survive a crisis that nearly shut us down, taking paycuts, furloughs, and working long hours and outside gigs. Now, management is proposing a contract that would cut longstanding benefits and pay us less than workers at its other papers.

The Chicago Reader Union has been bargaining w/ Noisy Creek since February. In that time, management has consistently offered proposals that would cut longstanding benefits in exchange for meager pay raises. We need YOU to tell Noisy Creek we deserve better! 🧵 🔗: actionnetwork.org/letters/tell...

TELL NOISY CREEK WE DESERVE BETTER.

Noisy Creek management wants us to ...

-Work longer hours
-Take fewer sick days
-And work in-office

all while offering us lower wages than other newspapers they own.

Join us in demanding a fair contract!

Commentary: The version of the natural world that younger generations consider normal may be worse compared to that of their parents, and significantly worse than that of their grandparents. That could lead to unambitious conservation policies and programs. By @sammyherdman.bsky.social

A potential consequence of climate change is lowered expectations for environmental quality that lead to unambitious conservation programs.

250 years of American invention - a story still in the making

Two hundred and fifty years ago, America made a bet: that ordinary people with extraordinary ideas could build a nation unlike any before. That bet is still paying off.

The Cade Museum for Creativity and Invention presents this exhibit in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Commerce - home of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the institution that turned creative freedom into economic fuel.

At the Cade, we believe so deeply in thinking and acting like an inventor that we gave it a name: Inventivity.® This exhibit is brimming with it.

The race is well underway, but it's never too late to jump in. So gear up, strap in, and take a lap

Netanyahu sucks, AIPAC sucks, but "we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby" is just code for "blame Jews." Trump wasn't forced to do this. Trump's supporters—like Kent—weren't forced to elect him and embolden him. They're not absolved of any responsibility.

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today.
I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.
It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC.
May God bless America.

The fact that this stuff just instantly starts going around from accounts on social media with tens of thousands of followers is so disturbing.

Tweet from Aysha: "A man drove his car deliberately into the Temple Israel Synagogue in Michigan? Smells like a false flag to push “Jews aren’t safe” and antisemitism is rising narrative."

A guy rammed his car through a door at Detroit’s largest synagogue and got out with a gun and was shot by security before he could massacre everyone inside. And yes all synagogues that can afford it have security. And yes it’s exactly because of situations like this that they do.

Armed man rammed vehicle into Michigan synagogue and was fatally shot by security, AP source says

It's the middle of the night in Chicago. Reporters and electeds are trying to figure out why a US citizen was detained by CBP, why her phone was inside an ICE detention center tonight, and where she is now. Also unclear what happened to the other five people she was detained with at O'Hare airport.
