The big literary discourse on twitter right now is whether The Hobbit—a children’s book that won children’s lit awards and was literally written for the author’s children—is appropriate reading for children or in fact such a difficult book most adults can’t “get their head around” it.

My favorite Sam Neil fact will always be that he designed a future Australian flag that replaces the union jack with the aboriginal flag for Event Horizon and insisted the film use it.

I have caught up on my reading. This means my To Read Stack fits in their allotted two bookcases.

Not to make this all about America, but things like this, the Tartan Army, the Cape Verde story, Bosnia-Herzegovina and others are good illustrations of how you can be proud to be where you're from and confident in your identity while being kind and gracious and without being a complete dingleberry
