When an expert on authoritarianism (@anneapplebaum.bsky.social) is writing about your scientific meeting, alarm bells should go off. Write to American Diabetes Association CEO Charles Henderson at chenderson@diabetes.org and Chief Medical Officer Rita Rastogi Kalyani at rkalyani@diabetes.org.

Senior researchers at a meeting of the American Diabetes Association were handing out copies of an editorial, published in the association's journal, condemning Trump administration cuts to diabetes research. Police came to arrest them. www.nytimes.com/2026/06/05/w...

This is the editorial that the physicians were sharing at the American Diabetes Association conference To appease the MAGA/MAHA Administration, the ADA called the cops to get the physicians removed These physicians are heroic If you can’t speak out & condemn authoritarianism NOW, then when?

In the #NASEM chat with Bhattacharya, he talks about how supporting innovation will support early career scientists. Meanwhile, under his leadership, early career scientists have disproportionately suffered. Early career scientists were disproportionately affected by terminations.

Bhattacharya is discussing the problem of replication in research. A major source of failure to replicate is lack of diversity in the original study population. Thus his anti "DEI" efforts -- which end up excluding already underrepresented people from research -- are undermining his stated goal.

Science needs more than funding to prosper. We aren’t going to find the cure for Alzheimer’s disease through hostility, govt sponsored misinformation, banning words, eliminating DEI efforts, and spotlighting fringe conspiracy theories. One party is doing this. One party is fighting against this.

While Trump launches us into a new forever war, he’s quietly preparing to take over our elections at home and rig the midterms in his favor. He knows he can’t win on the merits, so he’s preparing to cheat. We won’t let him get away with it.

… for my audience of millions: I’ve spent the last 30 minutes trying to add references to my bibliography. They show up, but then keep disappearing, so I’m still unable to complete this biosketch, which I’ve been working on (on on-and-off) for the last 5 hours.

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts. Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

New year, new era of discovery. Thank you for all of your support this year and we can’t wait to share 2026 with you. Happy New Year from all of us at The Jackson Laboratory!
