Father, husband, neuroscientist, proud Democrat, Canadian ex-pat living in the US ... and, once again, deeply questioning my choice of residency. The views expressed here are my own and do not necessarily reflect those of Advocate Health.

🚨 HEADS UP: If you haven't submitted a comment on the OMB proposal yet, there's still time - but it's running out! There are only 5 days left to push back against Russell Vought's attempt to give political appointees unprecedented control over federal research funding. Take Action: zurl.co/w6DcW

Graphic from Stand Up for Science urging action on a federal funding proposal. Large text reads: "5 Days Left" and "Help Us Stop Vought From Destroying American Science." A portrait of Russell Vought appears beside the U.S. Capitol. A banner along the bottom reads: "Submit a comment on the OMB proposal | Link in bio to take action." The Stand Up for Science logo appears in the top left.

For those who don’t follow sports and haven’t really had the opportunity to get to know Canada men’s national football team head coach Jesse Marsch, he is probably one of the few Americans who addressed the insulting “51st state” rhetoric head-on since day one. ❤️🍁🇨🇦TEAM CANADA FOREVER🇨🇦🍁❤️ 1/3 🧵

“taken together, [LoSasso’s] arguments inadvertently obscure rather than illuminate what the administration is actually doing” Agree. I too have been a peer reviewer at NIH—for basic #neuroscience, not health econ as LoSasso probably was—and he misses a lot of the big picture of NIH review. 1/ 🧪

5,843 terminated NIH grants. 110 canceled announcements. Courts ordering reinstatements. Political pre-issuance review in action. My take in MedPage Today. @medpagetoday.com www.medpagetoday.com/opinion/seco...

Treasury just waived oil sanctions on Iran for 60 days — citing "progress." Iran could rake in up to ~$10 billion off that decision alone. In contrast, the Obama admin didn't lift sanctions until a deal was signed and the IAEA independently verified Iran's nuclear compliance.

BREAKING: I'm suing Todd Blanche and the DOJ to STOP the $1.8B slush fund. The Justice Department violated the Administrative Procedures Act when it established the fund, and it must be set aside. You can read my complaint here: www.muellershewrote.com/p/breaking-i...

BREAKING: I’m Suing Todd Blanche and the DOJ to stop the $1.8B Slush Fund

In establishing the “anti-weaponization” fund, the government failed to follow the Administrative Procedures Act (APA), so I'm suing to set the fund aside.

In August, Jay Bhattacharya said “Training future biomedical scientists” was the 1st priority for his version of NIH. But talk is cheap. Let’s see how JB’s doing. 🤔 NIH supports trainees mostly via fellowship (F), training (T), and career development (K) awards. Here are funding curves for each.🧵

If anyone, foundations, philanthropists, industry partners, is interested in funding fundamental research on female-specific vulnerability to addiction, please reach out. This work is too important to let die because of funding instability.

So glad that this paper is out! This review, written by an outstanding graduate student, @oliviaortelli.bsky.social, summarizes a large body of work using Hank Samson's sipper tube operant procedure to study alcohol self-administration. A major bonus....

Procedural separation of appetitive and consummatory behaviors in operant ethanol self-administration: A review and open source analytical framework doi.org/10.1111/acer...

When I joined @jlweiner.bsky.social ’s lab, I told our lab technician Ann Chappell that I wanted to learn self-administration. She gave me a flash drive with every paper Hank Samson ever wrote. I felt like I won the lottery, read every one, and this paper is the ultimate result. Incredibly grateful!

loved every second of Bad Bunny. That message of inclusion and a celebration of cultures like Puerto Rico’s is just what America needs right now. Plus, his music just gets you in motion. 10/10
