it is mentally, intellectually, spiritually, exhausting to be dealing with the same injustices for an entire lifetime when we know, observe, speak on or report on the structural & societal norms causing & worsening it all. (this applies to many issues & news stories. cornell 7 most on my mind.)

in newsrooms you work in a river of incoming information all day everyday or nights. you do not get to really look away. even if it’s “not your beat” you are bearing witness and working hard to unearth key facts, help colleagues do so. can be a privilege & burdensome duty.

it’s not about me or anyone only bearing witness. it’s about the people who survived or are surviving the difficult thing. it’s about alleged perpetrators, institutions that should have held them accountable. witnessing it is also human & heavy so… take time to process if you can.

no not the trite “touch grass.” but breathe. do things that rejuvenate you. talk with friends, family, therapists, colleagues, someone you feel good about. listen to, watch or read something entertaining, absorbing. zone out. cook. stretch. walk. lift. take that time.

I’m wondering what percentage of people in the world can plausibly, safely leave their country of birth. Or what that ability is even called. Not “mobility,” but something like that…..?

Just found this map, and wow. I don’t know how accurate it is…but if it is, yea, safe to say a solid half the world population doesn’t have passports at all. (Including half of USians!?!)
