First part of the quote I agree with. But the second… that’s like allowing Polymarket or a casino to create a curriculum on the dangers of gambling. They’ve created plenty of content for members without large infusions of outside cash for decades.

First day of school for us here. Currently the 13 year old wants to be a chemical engineer, the 9 year old an architect, and the 7 year old a landscape architect.
They won’t always want me making their lunches for them and I’ll admit my attitude about the task varies some, but it is certainly good for me to start my day off thinking of how to make them happy.
I’m going to miss seeing my best friend. ❤️

Ughhhh. Our new CostCo has always been an “August 2026” opening, but they finally released the exact date and it’s not until the 27th.
Typically my wife and I go out for a nice bunch on the kids’ first day back at school. Mixing it up a bit this year and we bought tickets to see The Odyssey at 11:00 am.
I have to regularly remind myself that the work of the teacher labor market folks is important despite them not addressing the ways in which teachers are prepared and supported in doing their jobs. Defining what a shortage is can be helpful! It’s just not the same way I’d like to contribute.

I’d missed this when it posted a few days ago. Tyler continues to be a must-read voice for me in this space. Being a teen in church is hard. But like the article says, much of that is because the added pressure from the adults in the congregation. It doesn’t have to be that way.

One thing that I think really made me who I am today was having unfettered access to all sections of our local public library starting at about age 12. Yes, I read a lot of things before I was ready for them. But that also made me really curious about things I only partially understood.
