In case anyone else needs it, the magic phrase for shutting down men picking apart a sexual violence case by blaming victims is: “The only people who would say something like that are rape apologists, rapists, or both.” You don’t have to argue with them on merit when their claims have no merit.
The death penalty is abhorrent and monstrous to begin with: the fact that it can’t be operationalized is not a practical failure, it is a moral one. We are a deeply sick nation.

Exactly. I remember the performative, yet authentically violent, patriotism and nationalism - cars with American flags, intense and overt racism and Islamophobia, and the assertion through many means that the grievances could only be owned and felt by those who ascribed to these horrific frameworks
In Massachusetts, we have a responsibility to protect the vulnerable and stand up for those who need it. We don’t throw trans kids under the bus for political points. We protect them—and all of our neighbors—because trans rights are human rights.
There’s such an easy answer to this “gotcha” question and it’s “Sports are inherently unsafe and unfair and it’s ridiculous to single out trans athletes when we allow 150 pound linebackers to go up against 260 pound linemen in freshman football on a daily basis. Let kids play with their friends.”

And how rarely those things happen to abusers, esp. high-status white male abusers.
