Add to this the half an hour of every hour it seems to take me to navigate dual factor authentication widgets on literally every entry point of my work-related websites because network credentials change constantly for security reasons and everything thinks I’m using a “new device”

When we talk about the costs that LLMs impose on society we should not forget the fact that nothing works anymore because everyone is so scared of getting their shit scraped. I can't even use google scholar from my university or starlink because they send too much traffic.

if you are reviewing an unpublished manuscript and you have the sheer unmitigated audacity, cheek, gall and laziness to upload it into an LLM to generate a review, let me tell you, you should be shunned and tarred and feathered

In case you are an academic who is currently being gaslit into believing that you're a caveman who wants their students to be jobless if you resist allowing AI in your classrooms... I present to you Berkeley Law's response, which can be summarized as "Fuck off directly into the sun."

Artificial Intelligence Policy

Sentences like “Ai is not going anywhere” and “Ai is here to stay” are ones I do not wish to see in any administrative teaching guidance communications at my liberal arts PSE institution, yet here we fucking are.

OMG YES. And when it comes to the breathless optimism around how loud & wrong people are about what *AI* actually is (including in academia), I feel like all these people are enthusiastically building their own guillotines & then, equally enthusiasctically, lining up to 'try it out for themselves.'

“As a librarian, I think it’s important to see this as…helping people reclaim their autonomy over whether they want to use AI tools,” Bailey said. “It’s important, especially when it can be so difficult not to use them, and when the design seems to force adoption” Librarians to the rescue (again)

Librarians are hosting viral 'Avoiding AI' workshops for people who are fed up with Big Tech | TechCrunch

At libraries around the country, "Avoiding AI" workshops have elicited unprecedented demand.

We could all do without this apocalyptic fire season every year 😭. Yet here we are. It’s great that our govts are scrambling to build more data centres all over Ontario bc obviously that’s what we need- massive heat generating facilities that guzzle water & suck up power from an ailing grid 😞 /s
