A UK study found that telling potential SUV buyers that those vehicles directly result in higher fatalities for pedestrians, cyclists and children had zero effect on their decision to buy them. What does work? Financial penalties: Increased fees, taxes, parking. www.theguardian.com/world/2026/j...

Losing a friend seems so much easier than making a new friend or maintaining an ongoing friendship. Somehow the whole world and their pets seem to have a BFF, but me. Everything that is good in this world is off limits for me. It feels that I am prohibited from ever experiencing anything joyful.

I had gotten an email about this for the street on which I live but I didn’t recognize the name of the organizer (in fact, I have never met the vast majority of my neighbors). So I didn’t remember to loop back. The event is over now. Oh well. (What a sad neighbor I am.)

"Rena" sent this from Moses Lake WA where she is weeding carrots for a non-union company. She shared: The air is bad. See my cell phone. The AQI is 166, which is unhealthy. We start at 4am. We'll work 7-8 hrs & earn minimum wage. #WeFeedYou

Luckily we still have a DYI box fan setup from the last smokey summer. It's running now and the living room air quality is getting better. It's really amazing how fast it started helping.

EA officially goes private tonight, meaning: - EA will no longer trade on the NASDAQ for the first time in 36 years - All stockholders of EA (including many employees) will receive $210/share - EA will take on $18 billion (!) in debt, putting it on the hook to pay ~$1.8 billion/year in interest

For lots of Americans, transportation history goes like this: First, we all walked. 👞 Then we all got horses. 🐴 Then we all got cars. 🚗 Trains, boats, canals, ferries, streetcars, bicycles, not to mention having everything nearby so that no mechanical transpo was needed: all memory-holed. 🗃️

It's depressingly hilarious to me how so few people understand what transportation looked like in the early 20th century in the U.S.

Happy primary day! We're officially launching Nondriver Action, a c4 that works at the intersections of transportation, housing & climate justice. Tomorrow, we'll send out questionnaires for our general election endorsements to all city and county council candidates on the ballot in WA ndaction.org

Nondriver Action fights for the rights of Washingtonians who can’t drive so that no one is left isolated and without a voice.

We work at the intersections of transportation, housing and climate justice to build communities and systems where everyone has the freedom to get to their school, work, healthcare, errands, and friends.

A third of Washington residents are nondrivers. Nondrivers are people with disabilities, people who can’t afford driving, people without valid driver’s licenses, children and youth, and people aging out of driving.

We care about transportation accessibility because it can make the difference between getting to do the things that connect us to our communities, like running errands, seeing a friend, or getting to an appointment — or being stuck at home and isolated. We need reliable and frequent transit in every community, accessible and safe sidewalks and crossings, and bike lanes and multi-use paths connected to every destination.
