In the current issue of Cell Host & Microbe, Sánchez-Martínez et al. demonstrate that oral and small-intestine bacteria can modulate IgE-mediated anaphylaxis through metabolic degradation of immunodominant peanut allergens. This study provides insights into microbial mechanisms underlying food-induced anaphylaxis and may point to new directions for advancing food allergy therapy.
