We get told to "learn to take a joke" when drivers laugh about hitting pedestrians & micromobility users that get in their way. We get told that drivers threatening us or revving their engine at us wouldn't actually hurt us & not to be so dramatic. This is the result of normalising & excusing it.

A driver in Boston ran down and murdered a scooter rider because he felt "disrespected." Cars are weapons.

A pass as close as this is dangerous. I'm merely trying to keep fit riding to work but this driver can't be bothered to move out a little to pass me safely in his 2-ton 4x4. Reported, of course. I doubt I'll ever know the actual outcome.

I cycled to work the longer way today. At 5.5 miles, that's further than most UK car trips - yet it took me just 22 minutes We urgently need to unblock and enable the millions of short active trips that are being blocked every day because of our collective car dependency. Our health depends on it

Came around a bend to find this one driving towards me on my side of the road! He was looking at his passenger's phone rather than out of the windscreen! I scrubbed off a lot of speed and thankfully he looked up and moved over. Reported for driving without due care and attention.

I don't want to sound too over-excited about this, but I might have come across the most ludicrous and nonsensical anti-cycling newspaper comment piece *ever*. Big claim, I know, but it's quite something. Mini thread - 1/

When considering the parlous state of modern justice, perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised by a rise in civilians keen to enforce road regulations. Instead of “policing the streets” (the clue is in the wording), coppers remain tied to their desks, shuffling through piles of pointless “process”.What’s effectively happened over the past couple of years is that sainted but often vengeful cyclists have been given free rein to harass drivers in the name of crime prevention. As a result the streets have become a tinderbox of self-righteous fury with illegal scooters, questionably ridden takeaway-service mopeds and entitled Lycra loons competing for limited space. Instead of dealing with the inevitable fallout from an explosion of largely unregulated modes of transport, motorists are the ones being unfairly targeted by anyone with an axe to grind.It’s especially galling for car owners, who must jump through all sorts of regulatory hoops before they can obtain a licence, to be lectured to by a bunch of entitled two-wheelers who don’t even have to register their vehicles, let alone sit a driving test or take out expensive insurance. Rather than burdening motorists, authorities should introduce proper regulations around cycle and scooter use, making sure all vehicles are registered and insured. And how about punishing cyclists who continually run red lights and ride on pavements?

Bicycling with an electric battery was the most pleasant way I could get around london during the heatwave but I’ll tell you something I noticed, stopping next to one of these idiot cars in traffic was like standing next to a radiator blasting heat at my torso. These are not the cars of the future.

I had the privilege of watching this in Bristol yesterday, thanks Sarah, the film was very moving and shows why changing to safer roads and travel is so important. We cannot let dangerous scofflaws have free rein on our roads.

I made the documentary “City of Cars” which tells the story of the tragic death of Mayar Yahia and the family’s unquantifiable loss, to challenge the apparent political apathy about dangerous driving in Birmingham; and the resulting inherent threat as we walk or cycle in the city. Its unacceptable.
