I really do think it is *possible* to restore global norms around “intentionally murdering civilians with precision weapons is bad and you will eventually suffer repercussions from doing so you don’t like.” But as it stands, humans are choosing to murder civilians with FPV drones all the time.

This is scary/ bad, but not surprising, in that both Ukraine + Russia have been trying to crack cheap onboard computer vision targeting for a long time. IMO, core problem in 2026 is still that we’re seeing hugely increased numbers of 100% human-piloted, intentional attacks on civilians with drones.

“The use of self-targeting A.I. in the gas station attack, on July 6, would be the first documented case in which civilian deaths were caused by a Russian drone outfitted with such a system” www.nytimes.com/2026/08/24/w...

6 in 10 rural americans live in metropolitan areas. Our stats conflate exurban suburbs with strict large lot land use controls and a basket of gimmicks to avert annexation for tax purposes with rural america. So does popular consciousness.

I am firm believer in the harms of magical thinking... 💔 again. Every time I think I have insulated myself against the perils of interviewing, I find myself waking up in the middle of the night rehearsing what I could have/should have done differently in the campus visit to get it "this time."

On some level, I guess there are important issues around "wokeness" and "anti-wokeness" in the US, but the fate of hundreds of thousands of Haitians being violently deported by our government right now for purely racist reasons seems a lot more tangible and pressing.

Really loved the latest Vibe Check pod on the death of Jason Arday and the dangers of being isolated in elite spaces. Thank you, @theferocity.bsky.social! Also if folks haven't seen the website Arday's former students put together, please give it a read. leilacancode.github.io/everythinggo...

I thought my wife and I were okay, so I am very surprised to be a person transformed into a chubby clay doll completing wild adventures w/ some other woman because I'm her estranged husband... under a spell cast by a magic psychology book on 'love as work' + a little girl's grief? (It Takes Two)

You're offered $250,000,000 but to claim it you must enter the last video game you've played and stay there for a full year. How are y'all faring in this deal?

God have mercy, for surely the death penalty is an abomination. Give welcome to souls of those who die, chasten the conscientious of all who observe, and strengthen all who fight for justice and mercy in our structures and actions.

This is actually a place where those of us who have some seniority and no fucks to give can leverage their privilege. If someone posts a job to a list without salary info, I will IMMEDIATELY reply on-list to say “Before I forward this to great candidates who might be interested, what is the salary?

My MLS students would like you to know that if you don't post a salary with your job posting, they aren't likely to apply.

Corporate money doesn’t just buy seats. It buys rhetoric, votes, and policy. From Medicare for All to lowering utility costs, I’ll be able to actually fight for solutions that people in Western and Central Mass need when I’m in Congress.

Academic Christian Twitter: Does anyone know of someone who has written on the *pastoral care/pastroal guidance* implications of novelizations of lives of the saints (the example I am thinking of is the novelization of the life of Bakhita, but general discussion is welcome)

we have reached the stage of tired where I lead the johnny appleseed song as a mealtime prayer for my children by whistling while dancing with plastic plates in each hand like some kind of queer 80s revivalist
