Electric Circuits and electricity in general quite possibly the thing I hate teaching most at GCSE. Complete waste of time when everyone knows electricity is actually magic and I hate being part of the conspiracy covering this up.

I‘ve spent my working life teaching and “communicating” science but there’ve been lots of times in my career when I’ve had a class and wished that, instead of electric circuits or whatever, I was teaching students how to cook dal or something else useful. (I have in fact used lesson time to do this)

GPS satellites move at 1/100000 the speed of light, causing their clocks to tick slower by 7 microseconds per day, and orbit at a height that makes their clocks tick faster by 45 microseconds per day. Two relativistic effects, both at the 1 part in 10 billion level, both essential for GPS accuracy 🧪
