Book lovers! I think some of you would love to support this in any way you can - Aine is trying to raise a relatively modest amount of money to get new books for a school library. She’s about half way to her target and it would be amazing to meet it with your help

Hi Alom, I finally got a fundraiser set up and approved by the school board (thanks for that wonderful idea btw) and here is the link below. gofund.me/55e46e8ca

She doesn’t know why she’s doing it herself IMO. She’s trying to Win An Argument On The Internet but against the national news media. Her ‘I hate the kind of videos he makes’ was v revealing of how little she understands the context or consequences of the things she says, whilst she’s saying them.

This is genuinely the single most needless self-inflicted political clusterfuck I've seen in some time. It was a council selection: all Badenoch had to do was get him dropped as a candidate. Instead she's turned it into a multi-day saga she now personally owns.

Having said it was okay for Bonehill-Paine to be a councillor because it was just bins, instead of dropping him, Badenoch has given him an advisory role – *after* Jewish groups refused to meet with him? Does she just never want this story to end, or....what.

The fact that Badenoch has torched any arguments about how far to the right Conservatives have gone in defence of this bloke for him to then withdraw is pretty funny. Defending someone who has been jailed for neo-Nazi activities was such a strange hill to die on. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Ex neo-Nazi activist withdraws as Tory election candidate

It follows a backlash against the party's decision to pick Joshua Bonehill-Paine as a council candidate in Somerset.

Good and important messaging, but it is striking how Muslim candidates are repeatedly defamed as “terrorists” and then have to turn around and issue such statements when there is no similar expectation that Christian or Jewish candidates need to do the same for their Muslim-American constituents.

El-Sayed: "My commitment to Jewish safety is the same commitment that I have to the safety of my own daughters. Because if there is one question of political philosophy that ought to animate us all, it's what would we do if we treated all our kids like they were all of our kids?"

Friends! This is an incredibly worthy cause - Aine is seeking to raise a relatively small amount of money to buy “one new reading book for every child at St. Brigid's National School, Glenmakee, Carndonagh, Co. Donegal”. Already about 1/3 of the way there, please help her get all the way.

While I'm on publishing and AI, the recent crisis around AI authored stories feels a little self-inflicted to me. If publishers spent more time developing the careers of the human authors they work with, they wouldn't have created an environment where AI authored stories could thrive

If you throw everything at debuts, over and over, and then keep moving on, you've created an environment where actual authors are discarded in favour of the shiny new thing, often before they've acheived even a tenth of what they could with time to develop their craft. It's a self-inflicted wound

They’ve NEVER truly changed. It’s like Farage and the Hitler youth songs shit - if you actually were embarrassed by any of that, the real world response would never be ‘I’m going to represent exactly the same kind of politics but with the inconvenient words edited out.’

It’s disgusting for the Conservatives to ask Jewish groups to meet their ex-neo-Nazi candidate, presumably in the hope he will charm them and they’ll offer their blessing. They should not expect Jewish people to sanitise this appalling choice. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Tories offer Jewish groups meeting with ex neo-Nazi activist candidate

Joshua Bonehill-Paine was jailed over neo-Nazi activism, but has been selected to stand in a new Somerset Council seat in 2027.

We're changing rail card rules so 18-year-olds can get half price train tickets. With £2 fares and kids going free on buses this summer, this Government is providing families with the little bit of breathing space that we know is needed. 🚆

Music lessons taught in strict silence… It shows that you have no idea about music, music education, or education in general . Subjecting children to this nonsens proofs that a healthy pedagogy is absent.

Reminder that the Tories believe any non-British person who commits more than a minor parking or traffic offence should be automatically deported. They “believe in second chances”, apparently, but only for literal Nazis.
