As someone who saw this shit happen in audio fiction podcasting, LISTEN when people say this. Every smug podcaster I saw make a comment about other podcasts being 'the competition' is no longer a going concern in the industry. None of them lasted or had a scrap of community to work with.

not only is it very rude to treat your peers like competition; it also misunderstands the base market systems of small-press/indie ttrpg spaces

I just had an epiphany that solved the thing I couldn’t figure out about my current WIP. It deepens all three main characters, ties together two disparate plot threads, explains a later event, and has real emotional heft. It just fell into place after months of trying to figure it out.

Sad to hear of the death of Dave Cousins of Strawbs. I’m in the midst of writing a new show heavily influenced by the sound of their Hero And Heroine album, a record that is permanently etched in my brain. His idiosyncratic voice and songwriting were important pieces of my musical history. RIP.

REMEMBER: All the "Don't use em-dashes" "don't use rule of three" advice because it makes your writing "look like AI" is because they stole actual writers work, and their "predict the next thing" stuff just simulates what WE FUCKING DO. Keep writing well. Use every style and trick you have. Fuck AI.

I hate that "AIs" (aka people-pleasing hallucinating plagiarism engines) are trained on work stolen from writers, incl. all my books. I hate more that it's eroding our ability or even desire to think. I get it. Thinking is hard. It's ALSO the work. It's the whole point. It's what makes us human.

Just finished my last week of fulltime teaching, which coincided with working alongside my freshly ex-wife to put on a garage sale of many of the things we amassed in our life. Feeling kind of broken at the moment.

Do not travel to the US. If you absolutely have to, scrub your SM and make as much private as you can. Use a temporary phone with no biometrics only PIN - they cannot compel you to give a PIN but can for biometrics. Have a photocopy of your passport. Set up regular check-in times with friends.

Le Monde reporting that a French scientist traveling to Houston to attend a conference was denied entry to US after a search of his phone & computer revealed messages critical of Trump's science cuts, "which [says CPB] conveyed hatred of Trump & could be qualified as terrorism". Computer confiscated
