Acrobat Reader AI: Gee, this is a long document! Want me to summarize it for you? Me: No. Go away. Acrobat AI pop-up: Are you sure? Another Acrobat AI pop-up: Are you sure? Yet ANOTHER Acrobat AI pop-up: Are you *sure* you're sure? This AI bubble can't burst soon enough for me.

I can’t believe we’re still having a debate about whether there’s a trade off between job creation and measures to green the economy. There isn’t. The evidence was clear years ago - a green economy creates far more jobs than the fossil fuel economy it replaces. Come on Labour, catch up …

Government contracts to require job creation instead of green targets under new rules

"I now feel awful for anyone who wants to tell a story post-2026. If you like flowy run-on sentences, if you grew up reading Proust to let the words flow over you in all their glory, if you memorized sonnets so the iambic pentameter would soak into your bones, you’re gonna sound like a fucking bot."

Govt planning c. 100 new data centres by early 2030s, mostly in already water stressed areas. They have no legal obligation to disclose how much water they use. Meanwhile Govt launches £75m publicity campaign to urge us to reduce water use & privatised water companies waste 19% thro leaks. Madness

Looks like someone pirated Daily Science Fiction's entire output and posted them here, claiming to have author permission. At least a dozen authors to my knowledge have said they didn't grant permission. If you were published by DFS, you might wanna consider a Cease and Desist.

I know we were all gutted after the 2024 election and probably didn’t pay much attention to Jack Smith’s motion to dismiss the J6 case against Trump. But it’s worth a read. He made a point to say DoJ policy treats Trump’s second term as a PAUSE, and not the END of the case. I want Jack Smith for AG

Last week the posy I brought home from the garden had a chrysalis attached though I didn't notice till I got home. If you, like me, haven't watched a butterfly emerge you won't be prepared for how amazing or how long emergence takes #TinyJoys a 🧵

"Why do kids need to write essays now that LLMs can write essays?" Because if the LLM writes the essay, NO FUCKER HAS LEARNED A FUCKING THING FROM THE PROCESS.

Full of despair today. Massive lay offs in social sciences and humanities across the country, Burnham puts out a video saying 'AI can write an essay', and my university is busy integrating co-pilot into all staff and student computers. We are being told we're defunct and there's no resistance.

I'm not entirely sure exactly when it was declared anathema to believe that part of being a socialist was considering how to make it possible for more nice things to happen for people for whom nice things often do not happen. But it really should be central. Nice things are what people deserve.

Lovely and non-spoilery review of the new book, which you can order from August.

Electing real fighters like Jarrett Keohokalole is how we build a better Democratic Party. In the Hawaii State House, Jarrett has proven he’s a skilled legislator dedicated to making life more affordable for his constituents and standing up to corporate power.

(next to a photo of Rep. Ed Case) Hawaii is a solidly blue state, but Democrat Ed Case voted for the SAVE Act, and refused to join the rest of Hawaii's congressional delegation in condemning abusive ICE tactics.

(next to a photo of Jarrett Keohokalole) Hawaiians deserve a REAL democratic fighter - like Jarrett Keohokalole!

what a world. so much love tryin to get where it is needed. sometimes it arrives, sometimes it gets lost in the shuffle, but dang is it impressive how hard it tries. and all that love that gets lost in the shuffle never actually goes away. it comes back, it just takes a little longer sometimes
