Had quite a weekend so far. before I get into it… Anyone know anyone who went to the Maurice Plant meet last night and then to Melbourne Sports and Aquatics Centre this morning? My weekend: 1) on Friday I gave students exam with one question that was harder than intended.

I just got an email about disease forecasting. They seem to be interested in a *very* specific cohort. Here's the email subject: "Forecasting infectious disease epidemics in men who have sex with men on Friday, 6 February 2026, 11:00 AM"

Trump: "Therefore, Canada should become our Cherished 51st State... Much lower taxes, and far better military protection for the people of Canada – AND NO TARIFFS!" Come on Canada, call his bluff... Please?

Well, I'm making my first post here, and it is a fun one: I have recently advertised for up to 4 post-doctoral research positions, 3-5 years in duration. If you are interested please get in touch or apply. An opportunity to work in Melbourne, great team, great city! Details at iddjobs.org:

At what point will the policy response be “we really need to get this under control”? Or are we again going to wait until it’s beyond the point of control?

I spoke to @mscribe.bsky.social @theguardian.com about the H5N1 case in BC. More and more human cases are occurring, along with mutations that indicate further human adaptation. We need to treat these cases like a warning, because that is what they are. www.theguardian.com/world/2024/n...
