The past few years have been an explicit test of two theories of how to win back AfD voters: first, the CDU just needed to pivot to the hard right under Merz and second that the Linke as a party was too woke and needed to turn to workerist anti-migrant nationalism via BSW. Both failed.

The latest poll for Saxony-Anhalt has the far-right at 41%. If some of the smaller parties (SPD, Greens, BSW) don't clear the threshold to enter parliament, the far-right may gain an absolute majority in September.

What the plagiarism cases coming to light at the moment clearly demonstrate is that the Harvard citation style should be binned. It just encourages superficial engagement with sources. Where is the page number? How is this helpful for other people who want to find the argument for themselves?

The Ministry of Defence says the alliance aims to "reorientate academia towards Defence and National Security", strengthen links between universities and the defence sector, and translate research into "battlefield advantage". Campaigners say the move represents a significant shift in the role of higher education and has taken place without meaningful public debate. Among the founding members are the University of Oxford, University College London, King's College London, the University of Manchester, the University of Edinburgh, Cardiff University and Queen's University Belfast. "We are witnessing the formal incorporation of Britain's universities into the defence ecosystem," said Jinsella Kennaway, Founder and Executive Director of Demilitarise Education. "The Ministry of Defence is explicit about its intentions. Universities exist to advance knowledge and foster critical inquiry, not to become pipelines for military research and defence recruitment. Students and staff deserve to know who agreed to this and why." Dass die Berliner CDU ausgerechnet die Antisemitismusprävention korrumpiert hat, ist ein ungeheurer Skandal - weil es eine gefährliche, reale Judenfeindlichkeit gibt. Der Skandal ist aber auch ein Effekt der Instrumentalisierung und Aushöhlung des Antisemitismus-Begriffs.

Wenn die AfD an die Macht kommt, will sie die Provenienzforschung zu Raubkunst aus dem NS stoppen. Begründung: Die Forschung dient "nur der künstlichen Aufrechterhaltung eines Schuldgefühls, das wir endlich ablegen sollten". Und es gibt ernsthaft Demokraten, die meinen, sollen die doch mal regieren.

Opening text of a thread by Palantir from X Because we get asked a lot. The Technological Republic, in brief. 1. Silicon Valley owes a moral debt to the country that made its rise possible. The engineering elite of Silicon Valley has an affirmative obligation to participate in the defense of the nation. 2. We must rebel against the tyranny of the apps. Is the iPhone our greatest creative if not crowning achievement as a civilization? The object has changed our lives, but it may also now be limiting and constraining our sense of the possible. 3. Free email is not enough. The decadence of a culture or civilization, and indeed its ruling class, will be forgiven only if that culture is capable of delivering economic growth and security for the public. 4. The limits of soft power, of soaring rhetoric alone, have been exposed. The ability of free and democratic societies to prevail requires something more than moral appeal. It requires hard power, and hard power in this century will be built on software.
