I remember my roommate, a public school teacher, explaining that she had to leave teaching after she lost her second student to Covid. After working through the pandemic with early re-openings, little to no support, no air quality improvements, no extra help. She works at the library now.
I remember my dad, texting me from the emergency room, where he was waiting in the hall to be seen because there was no available space, telling me about the bodies they kept wheeling past him.
My experience is of every American COVID-19 mitigation effort being obviously insufficient, and ended far too soon. To see people now argue that they somehow were too much, going too far? Not anti-vax or MAGA people, but folks just out here on Bluesky? It staggers me.
