The idea of a Black academic being hounded to death for alleged acts of plagiarism in an era when universities are entering into contracts with AI companies and encouraging AI use among students, while Big Tech is stealing EVERYTHING humans write...

It's not about plagiarism. It's about the hounding. It's about them wanting to mob up on certain people, and it's predictable who those people will be. If they cared about intellectual theft, we wouldn't be living in the world we are living in. This is about a hierarchy of who deserves to exist.

Spent a lovely morning at the arboretum in search of ghost pipe flowers. I only found one and it was already turning brown so maybe I missed them for the year? Might go looking again next weekend. I also saw some type of baneberry, jewelweed, and a mother turkey with her babies.

The media is responsible for Jason Arday's death, but so are the people in academia who don't work in the media. There were plenty joining in. Cruelty and racism in academia did this just as much as the media outlets. Both hounded him.

The right wing, anti-DEI people of academia started it. Nathan Cofnas specifically, and others joined in before the media joined in. Cruelty and racism is rampant in academia. The media began to smear and bully Arday, which had more people start to participate.

It isn't all right wingers in academia either. Even now I see people who arent right wing conservatives blaming him, saying he's a liar and you can't lie to academics blah blah blah. Pinning this all on the media needs to be called out. They never would've picked it up without academic bullies.

Jason Arday is yet another painful example of how academia is still a tool of empire used to protect and defend white supremacy. We’ve been warning for years that the system can offer us a seat at the table without ever surrendering the pillars of injustice used to build it.
