This might happen in some places, but coalitions for national vs local issues have gotten really weird in San Diego. The median liberal voter wants to impeach Trump, abolish ICE, ban bike lane and apartment construction, and make parking free everywhere. (1/)

I suspect the real place for Democrats to solidify this win will be at the state and local level. That's where Ds have the chance of IMMEDIATELY making change and helping people in their everyday lives. Push your local pols to Mamdanify the shit out of the entire country, y'all. And BRAG about it.

I love the story behind RAILFAN! It's a film by Ian Daffern about a photographer who documents autistic kids and their love affair with the #NYC subway. There are two more days left in the crowdfunding campaign. You can watch a teaser, and contribute, if the spirit moves you, here:

A film about autistic kids who love trains and the people who love them

A curious, heartwarming documentary following a photographer as he makes a portrait series of autistic kids who love New York City subways.

My new piece about the most interesting race this election year: California insurance commissioner. For real! One candidate wants to socialize the whole system...and everyone wants to know how insurance is going to deal with the new world of climate disasters. www.bloomberg.com/news/feature...

The Race for the Worst Job in California Politics

The two candidates for state insurance commissioner want to rework homeowners’ insurance after two devastating wildfires last year.

This is very important not just for Culver City, but for Los Angeles, too. LA had a similar proposal approved by its charter reform commission that was killed by the city council in its last-minute rush. Now LA is reviewing reform proposals & Culver City passing this would boost chances in LA.

NEW in Bolts: In Culver City, California, students are trying to drum up support for a November ballot measure to let 16- and 17-year-olds participate in city council and school board elections.

During my first run for San Diego City Council in 2018 the District 6 boundaries included Clairemont, the neighborhood most affected by lead pollution from nearby Montgomery Field. While unleaded fuel was finally made available there in 2024, there was no requirement to use it. There still isn't.

San Diego airport leads U.S. in lead pollution. 30 schools are near.

MYF is the highest lead-polluting general aviation airport in U.S., and no targeted testing is being done in San Diego neighborhoods nearby.

Striking thing to me about the AES-Tommy vid is that he gives Tommy opportunities to correct but resists the temptation to be sympathetic or save face. Leaves him with ‘go tell your king what happened here.’
