Josh Grisetti was a phenomenal talent and from all accounts, a truly good person. This is devastating. What a loss.

I met Lindsay Graham once. He sat behind me and a friend at Hamilton in August 2016. At intermission, I asked him if he was enjoying the show. He said that he was, and that he was surprised to learn how much conflict there was among colonial Americans, even among those who wanted independence.

There’s a special kind of irony in watching the “shall not be infringed” crowd twist themselves into knots insisting birthright citizenship shouldn’t exist. It’s amazing how flexible “absolute” rights become when they’re someone else’s.

On the final day of Pride Month, it bears repeating, again and again: Trans rights are human rights. Trans rights are human rights. Trans rights are human rights. Trans rights are human rights.

Juneteenth is a day to reflect on the ways power holds on. How it held on through sharecropping, redlining, & Jim Crow laws. How it continues to hold on through the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery except as punishment for a crime, mass incarceration, and the gutting of the Voting Rights Act.

The fact that this lady can still show such grace and poise after being treated with such disrespect for nearly two decades will never cease to amaze me.
