Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.

Four recent books of new Marx/ist scholarship on nature, politics, power and energy from the 2020s. All very good! Seems like a new wave, we can finally stop saying “Since 2008 global financial crisis” and start saying “Since 2020s total planetary chaos…”
This is awful for everyone. Also, mark my words: it’s going to lead to a speeding-up of degree times (and likely degradation of the quality of programs) at many institutions as they continue to admit non-US applicants and tacitly “promise” them that they can complete the program.
