PhD Candidate @historicalstudies.bsky.social researching Soviet #BookHistory | visiting in Mainz | Bibliography Editor @sharpnews.bsky.social | from 🇧🇷 lived in 🇮🇹🇧🇾🇦🇹🇸🇪🇩🇪| Passionate about books, traveling and swing dancing (she / her)

After two weeks in Herräng Dance Camp, sleeping in a bunk bed and eating in the canteen so I could focus on dancing swing all day, I now somehow have to go back to making my own food and writing my dissertation. Kind of unfair that life is more than enjoying your hobbies

There's nothing that says women can't work gold. So many people roll their eyes when I talk about 'craftspeople', not 'craftsmen'. But this is why... There's female goldsmiths with their own marks in medieval London FFS so why not earlier??? #Archaeology 🏺 1/2 www.theguardian.com/science/2026...

Every major player in UK HE quoted in this piece is saying the same thing. It is very, very bad and without action from government it will get much worse. Thousands of students will lose out. The uniform response would be encouraging, except it only happens under serious collective stress.

This morning in Biddeford, Maine, a 26-year-old man said goodbye to his wife and daughter and left for work. Moments later he was dead, shot in the head by ICE agents, the second man ICE has killed in six days. ICE is killing our neighbors. ICE cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE.

"executives with no understanding of the industry" seems to be an endemic problem across industries: higher education, medicine, you name it, a bunch of suits with MBAs and unearned arrogance are destroying everything around us, and for some reason, we're supposed to accept that they know best

TV writers were right in 2023 and are being proven more right every day — there was a stable television model that made everyone lots of money and put out good shows. Then execs with no understanding of the industry confused the production model and the distribution model, and they blew it all up.

Collected things in public narratives are either Troves (valuable, glistening wows) or Dusty, moldy, messy hoards (pejorative) Ruthie Block had interesting things to say about formulating “accumulations.” I think more consideration of framing & terminologies like this would be fruitful. #SHARPIES26

I'm re-re-posting this significant article: "The open-source archive now contains more than 500,000 digitized photographs, identification papers, diaries, maps, films, and letters, many of which were collected directly from Palestinian families and might otherwise have been lost forever."

How Palestinians Are Building a Digital Archive That Can’t Be Erased

Distributed backups, cyber resilience, and a half-million records are preserving Palestinian history beyond any single building or border.

Having social media access made growing up gay 1 million times easier (I don’t think I would even know I was gay as a teen if it weren’t for social media), but it also made growing up progressive and informed possible. Social media was where I learned about abortion rights, for starters
