El-Sayed: "My commitment to Jewish safety is the same commitment that I have to the safety of my own daughters. Because if there is one question of political philosophy that ought to animate us all, it's what would we do if we treated all our kids like they were all of our kids?"
Voters on the left are absolutely sick of the Democratic party being full of center-right goons. If we have to take the party back one election at a time so be it.
BREAKING: Abdul El-Sayed has won Michigan’s Democratic Senate primary — defeating the candidate backed by Chuck Schumer, the party establishment and more than $50 million in outside spending. AIPAC tried to buy this election. Michigan voters refused to sell it.
Does anything exemplify Trump more than a lawsuit where the point of contention is *which* of his obviously and deliberately illegal activities he's in trouble for?
Capital One has asked a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit from the Trump Org. over the closure of hundreds of bank accounts in 2021, arguing that the shutdowns were the product of a monthslong anti-money-laundering review — not retaliation for the Capitol riot, as the Trump businesses have claimed.
Nor do we want to be on Truth Social. I would hate to find a welcome home there. I would hate to be somebody who would be palatable to such a place. We don't go on Truth, because nobody needs bullies. They *do* try to come on Bluesky, because bullies need the rest of us.
The burden is always on us lefties to welcome them, debate them, compromise with them, find middle ground, and generally make them comfortable. It’s totally one directional. No one is calling for Truth Social to make any room for us.
I agree. The concept of making places open and welcoming to a wide variety of beliefs, opinions, and lifestyles is vitally important, but it also has boundaries. Chief among those boundaries is the ability to see all human lives as worthy of dignity and respect. Reject that, and you aren't welcome.
Everywhere should be a hostile place for Republicans. They should not be able to find a friend anywhere. They should lose all their professional and familial relationships. They should be blocked from signing up to social media platforms, clubs, and yard sales. They should be ejected from fairs.
i don't want to "grow my account" or "strengthen my personal brand", i want to frolic unburdened through verdant fields. and shitpost
Given all of the recent genAI discussion, I wish to repost this.
I'd argue Darth Clippy is democratizing the cognitive effect of Oops All Yes-Men that used to be limited to the wealthy.
Every single day more and more evidence piles up indicating LLMs are pouring high-octane gas directly into people's addiction centers. Genuinely starting to think we're seeing the advent of a weapons-grade mental health crisis aimed directly at the people with the most wealth and power in society.
One of the aggravating paradoxes in transphobia is the amount of misogyny bigots deploy against people they refuse to accept as women. They want to hate you for being a woman AND hate you because they insist you're not a woman, both at once.
Tired of participating in the social contract, tired of leaving space for folks to learn and grow, tired of extending compassion, tired of choosing to nurture care instead of sharing grudges, tired of practicing rehabilitative mindset But! Bitch who cares, do it tired
At the end of the day, a government exists to protect the life and livelihood of its citizens. In order for the citizens to believe that the government is doing that, they must see and hear proof of the ways it is happening. The mechanism is less important than the results.
The reason the DSA folks seem to get so much attention is that they tend to talk about stuff like why your rent is high or why the bus is never on time. Voters by and large don’t really care about “democracy” because a lot of them have not gotten much out of democracy www.npr.org/2026/07/29/n...
This is a critical reminder for anyone who does just about any form of "knowledge work" and creative work. Allowing your mind the freedom to think, to process, to collate data "in the background" is a vital part of the process, and *is productivity*. You're not just there to generate output.
*Bonus*: always remind yourself that thinking is part of writing. Actual typing of text is just a sliver of writing. So, shower thoughts, walking thoughts, random thoughts in the day about your project *is* writing. Text yourself those thoughts (or get a dictation app)
I’m not sure whether this is just a psychological difference or AI bros fundamentally don’t understand the nature of an artistic experience, but: I don’t want a personalised film/book/podcast. I want to see/read/hear the same one as everyone else, so I can read reviews or discuss it with my friends
"Boycotts never achieve anything" factoid is actually a statistical error. Boycotts are an enormously successful pressure mechanism for collective action. Boycotts georg who launches a million boycotts every day with no thought given to target selection is an outlier adn should not have been counted
The older I get, the more I wish energy drinks actually did what they claim. I love the concept of a Do What You Planned To Do potion that gives me the energy to have a full day of willpower and motivation. But energy drinks don't make me less tired, they just make me tired in high gear.
Yes - if we don’t start dishing out judicial punishments for the plague of scammers and predators ascendant in the US right now, people will increasingly start taking matters into their own hands.
This is why when this regime falls we need absolute accountability. I am dead serious that we need a Nuremberg 2.0 for the worst offenders and a sustained and harsh anti-corruption drive for scammers. I worry if we don’t get legal accountability soon, people will start doing it extrajudicially.
If you've ever spent even a second of your life being sad about the Library of Alexandria, then this should motivate you to fight against LLMs in every context and every capacity until they are eradicated.
futurism.com/artificial-i... Excuse me while I go cry
Especially when we know for a clear fact that it is for *short-term* profit. A massive layoff that replaces capable humans with AI may increase profit in the short term, since it reduces costs. But it will not realize long term gains because AI cannot do good work AND it is already dying.
I am so tired of witnessing media layoffs and publications just throwing away amazing talent as this career becomes less and less sustainable and growing numbers of people are pushed out. All for shareholder profits.
I come back to this tumblr post again and again
Nobody wants predictive data models to stop working for the people in medicine. Or translating ancient Pompeii texts. Or the other ways we were already using it. We want it to stop replacing workers, killing the environment, and stealing from artists. Hope that clarifies.
Re: AI companies buying old books in bulk and destroying them If you have info on this (or know someone who does) signal is kaburbank.77 I will protect your anonymity with my life
saw this post years ago and will never ever forget it. sometimes you need to tend to the place from which you create, before you can create again
People really do not appreciate the importance of the "do nothing" phase in the creative process. We are all about the kinetic energy, and forget its duality with potential energy.
A significant discrepancy between the quantified health of "the economy" and consumer sentiment raises a very important question: What is the *information* discrepancy? Are consumers responding to something that the index isn't accounting for? Or is there information consumers aren't getting?
RBADVISERS: “.. Consumer Sentiment has never (!) in the history of the data been this poor when the economy was so benign.”
