Queer jewish leftist; professional sailor, unrepentant otaku, obsessive gaymer. Widowed by Trump. Biden did many great things, but failed the only test that mattered. I don't like feeding algorithms, so I follow people the old fashioned way.

The diarrhea lettuce company, Taylor Farms, uses slave labor contracted from the Arizona Dept. of Corrections. The backbreaking labor is often performed by imprisoned Mexican nationals who would be otherwise ineligble to work in the US. They are paid $1.50 an hour.

The Diarrhea Lettuce Company Has Been Linked to Forced Labor

The lettuce-producing Taylor Farms was linked to the widespread use of prison labor before its involvement in a cyclospora outbreak.

I'd add to this: "Defund the police" wasn't a slogan, it was a political and societal necessity. The alternative to defunding the police was the further solidification of an unaccountable proto-fascist paramilitary with strong right wing leanings. We're living the result now with the ICE and etc.

There are lots of things that are good & nice to have- community gardens, little free libraries, tool shares etc- that categorically aren't a societal-scale problem-solving policy. I think public/charity-run discount groceries are that which is why it's strange to see them take on such importance

So, what happens if I'm a parent and I know that my kid needs highly paid teachers, a library full of books with diverse characters, trans-inclusive bathrooms and extracurriculars, and a curriculum unpacking topics like systemic racism, colonial oppression, economic inequality, and climate change?

Facebook post from the U.S. Department of Education, saying "Parents know best" with a picture of a cartoon White, two-parent, heteronormative family, featuring a dad in a tie and sweater vest and a mom in a dress and pearls.

Reminds me of the ice machine on the NOAA ship Pisces, which had an optical sensor to detect when your hand was in front of it to dispense the ice. The problem: dark skin wasn't reflective enough, so it refused to dispense ice for a third of the crew. Jim Crow-ass Ice Machine.

legitimately this is a big reason it’s important to have diverse product teams! people with different experiences have different perspectives on how something can be misused and will bring up problems that you might have missed even with a good faith attempt at thinking them through

Perpetual reminder that making fun of "bad" fat people means that "good" fat people are one infraction away from you being an asshole at them about their bodies and it is completely at your whim and mercy. It's not a good look.

I'd also add: this is a different (although clearly overlapping) list from my 'best games' list; there's a lot of amazing works of art out there that I've Finished in far shorter periods of time.

Some very honorable mentions: Diablo II, Last Epoch, Mount and Blade, Crusader Kings 2 and 3, Satisfactory, Stardew Valley, Creeper World 4, Warframe, Morrowind, and, of course, *sighs*, Skyrim.

Calabar Burrowing Python. Their tail and head look very similar, and their 'defense' is to roll up in a ball with their head sticking out and 'strike' with their tail. They also lay /enormous/ eggs. The mother looks like a deflated balloon after laying them.

A pair of calabar burrowing pythons. Which end is the head?Curled up into a ball.Three eggs with a penny for comparisonThe mother curled up on her eggs.
