I was driving along Chester Road, Stretford the other day, when I saw a child cycling safely along the new cycle lanes. Alone, no adult with them. And I rejoiced, because this is precisely what the new lanes are FOR. 🙌 (Adults can use them too! 🤣)

Look, ebikes are great, but if you want to ride a 1500 watt monster, you're wanting to ride a motorbike. At least have the dignity of being honest about it! And motorbikes have no space on cycling infrastructure.

Sometimes I think about while bike bus is a great idea, what would be a greater idea is to have streets safe enough that kids could just bike to school by themselves without needing adults to organize and lead them.

Bicycles are hugely space efficient, which is why they make a lot of sense in congested cities. This video demonstrates why there aren’t traffic jams in bike lanes. Just imagine the traffic queues if every bicycle here was a car.

It'd be cool if the "increasing the cost of motoring hurts poor people" people cared anything like as much about cost to people who rely on public transport - who are disproportionately likely to be poor and disabled, and who consistently face far greater increases in cost.

It would be messy and chaotic and crazy expensive but ultimately Reform can override courts if they have a majority and I don't see why, say, the Taliban wouldn't sign a returns agreement to get back people they would like to torture and kill. So yes it could work.

Migrants didn't cut council funding. Migrants didn't cut NHS funding. Migrants didn't close youth centres. Migrants didn't sell off council houses. Migrants aren't filling our rivers with sewage. Farage and co. will tell you to point the finger at migrants. Don't fall for it.

Overheard at the playground: “I’m seeing all of these parents pull up w/ their kids on cargo bikes & thinking I should try biking here next time.” Do not underestimate the potential inspiration & motivation you might offer simply by riding your bike. 🚲 ❤️

This is important to understand. For example, those people who MUST GET IN FRONT (dangerously) of the bike that they see as slow and ‘holding them up’. They’re falling for this, rather than understanding that their overall journey time will not be affected by more than a couple of minutes, at most.

I don't think most people understand how our brains have adjusted to the high speeds of driving. What once felt fast feels normal. And thus anything slower feels like unacceptable impediment. It isn't just better insulation and shocks (although it helps - my '84 Volvo *told you* when you hit 60 mph)
