#BREAKING 🚨 Labor in their draft 2026 platform have replaced their previous statement of belief 'that there should not be poverty in a country like Australia' with a 'recognition' the social security system should support 'better health and wellbeing'.

A fair social security system

91. Labor believes in a strong, adequate and fair social safety net and that there should not be poverty in a country like Australia. Labor is committed to a social security system that keeps people out of poverty, whether they are unemployed, working age, escaping family or domestic violence or in retirement.A fair social security system

90. Labor recognises that a strong social security system supports not only economic security but also better health and wellbeing, and that when people have the means to meet their basic needs and make choices about their lives they experience stronger social and health outcomes.

ALP conference somehow even more sauceless than everyone thought it would be this year. Not you, internet smart guy. You already knew it would be bad. I mean even among attendees who had properly calibrated their expectations to 'zero'.

you go into public hospital with low expectations, but the staff have all been a fucking delight - I asked a student nurse to grab my cardi as I was a bit chilly, & he winked & said "I can do better" & got me a warmed-up blanket out of some kind of magical blanket toaster oven

the evil emperor cozying up to the pope’s idiot brother is so fucking renaissance, man. it’s so funny. the emperor is forming an alliance against the papal states and there is war in the holy land. there are rumors of plague.

I think it's actually essential to children's moral development to be exposed to short stories moderately beyond their reading level where a bunch of fucked up shit happens and then instead of offering a moral lesson or any sort of emotional or narrative resolution it just ends.
